A new study by researchers from the Centre for Systems Neuroscience at the University of Leicester, in collaboration with the University of California Los Angeles, has helped to untangle 'the memory web' by shedding light on how neurons in memory-related areas provide a long-term coding of associations between concepts. I don't know, Google it and find out

After discovering malicious users that were using open-source projects to participate in dangerous activities like bitcoin mining, SourceClear created a free project to help the community discover suspicious builds before they become an issue. I really wanted to do a "Who watches the build watcher" here, but ... meh

Quote: A Chinese group has become the first to inject a person with cells that contain genes edited using the revolutionary CRISPR–Cas9 technique. [^]
«There is a spectrum, from "clearly desirable behaviour," to "possibly dodgy behavior that still makes some sense," to "clearly undesirable behavior." We try to make the latter into warnings or, better, errors. But stuff that is in the middle category you don’t want to restrict unless there is a clear way to work around it.» Eric Lippert, May 14, 2008

I don't know why but "the island of dr moreau" came to my mind so fast...
This is not going to end well I think. As always a good idea will be used bad with even worse consequences.

No, you likely misunderstood a major point. The manipulated cells are NOT germline cells, only "common" somatic cells. That's still similar to implanting some device like a cardiac pacemaker. Hence there won't be any effect on future offspring of that individual.

A 6 month safety trial with lung cancer patients... How are they expecting to differentiate between adverse consequences and the natural progression of the cancer killing them all?
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. You like that? You go right on staring at it. I prefer looking at galaxies.

Announcing general availability of Azure Functions | Blog | Microsoft Azure[^]
Quote: Azure Functions supports the development of event driven solutions on a serverless architecture, enabling on demand scaling and you pay only for the resources you consume.
This is a very promising technology (in my opinion) for those sporadic but large tasks that I have for which I would previously have had to massively overprovision servers.
