Thanks, man. Coming from a professional blurb-writer who is continually called upon to be quick-witted, I really appreciate that.

RethinkDB, an open-source database, wants to help developers prototype and build cross-platform, real-time Web, mobile and IoT apps. The company announced Horizon, a new open-source JavaScript platform, is coming out of a closed developer preview today.

There's a lot to love about Ruby – the sweet syntax, the focus on developer productivity and happiness, the mature ecosystem, and of course, the awesome community we built around the language. One thing that Ruby is not known for though, is being a particularly fast language. "Ruby Without Fear"

I think you posted with the wrong title.
It should be: "Introducing Helix. Rust + Ruby, Without The Glue."

I did. I fixed it on the newsletter, just not here. I fix.

I refuse to work in a programming language that provides something as nasty as method_missing and has a triple === operator.

That's what you get with "dynamic" languages. So, I guess you'd not like Python, JavaScript, etc.. either. BTW, you'd get a version of this behavior when using reflection in C# and Java and other reflective languages.

Yup. If the member you're looking up doesn't exist you get null. If you try to use it, then NullReferenceException. You also get this sort of behavior when using C#'s dynamic.
I agree Ruby's === is assinine. Logical NOT? Why not just != like every other language. WTF?

!= is pretty well limited to C-style languages.
VB has <>, as does SQL and Pascal.
Haskell uses /= (which kind of matches the mathematical operator, indeed Haskell supports ≠ directly).
Smalltalk uses ~=.
There's quite a wide variety. Get out more

I'm aware. Just that === is more like the mathematical equivalent, not "logical not".

In a Google Groups thread named "Intent to implement: HTML5 by Default," the Google developers have announced initial plans to implement a new feature in the Chromium core that will disable the playback of Flash content by default and use HTML5 instead, if available. Take that, Flash.

I propose a more visual syntax and a keyboard-usable UI for generating regular expressions. One man's take
|
|
|
|

I absolutely agree that regex's are typically not good for reading. Great in uses such as search/replace, but for not so hot for use in code.
One of the things I liked about Microsoft's (discontinued) MGrammar project was that they just used the same syntax for lexical and syntactical constructs, so matching an identifier looked like:
Upper = 'A'..'Z'
Lower = 'a'..'z'
Letter = Upper | Lower
Digit = '0'..'9'
IdFirst = Letter | '_'
IdRest = IdFirst | Digit
Identifier = IdFirst IdRest*
While a bit more verbose, it rendered the result much more readable.

When I first learned about the Julia programming language, I became very enthusiastic about it. However, as I learned more about the language and experimented with it, I because increasingly disenchanted with it, and I’ll explain why in this post. I think we should start seeing other languages.

Windows 10 has been with us for a little over eight months now, which means there are only about four months remaining to get a free upgrade from an older Windows operating system. As the clock counts down, Microsoft has begun to auto-schedule PCs to upgrade to Windows 10 with or without consent from end users. Just gonna go home and check my settings, brb.
