Did the "obamaphone" program start offering vaguely modernish phones in the last few years? When I was still getting mass treespam by zipcode adverts for the program (since then they've apparently figured out I make way too much to qualify), the hardware they offered was so pathetic I wouldn't've been surprised if it didn't offer a camera.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Just over 60% of the workforce in Detroit doesn't live in the city. There's plenty of smart phones out there and there are a sh*t-tons more potholes and dumping sites for them to report.

If I install the app, can I report a resident with a broken sarcasm detector from out of state?

In 6 months, they fixed over 500 water line breaks? Or... the water line break was reported by multiple people. Isn't that the funny accounting that got Detroit in trouble in the first place?

I used to work for DWSD. They really do fix that many, and more. The problem is that parts of the system are over 150 years old and, better yet, they still find hollowed out tree logs from the 1800's in the system!
The system doesn't cover only Detroit/Wayne County. It's the 3rd largest system in the country covering over 1,000 square miles in 8 counties.

What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?
The metaphorical solid rear-end expulsions have impacted the metaphorical motorized bladed rotating air movement mechanism.
Do questions with multiple question marks annoy you???

A release by Wikileaks of what is believed to be the current and essentially final version of the intellectual property (IP) chapter of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) confirms our worst fears about the agreement, and dashes the few hopes that we held out that its most onerous provisions wouldn't survive to the end of the negotiations. Hold me?

Google announced today that its Cardboard VR app is now available in 100 countries for both iOS and Android. The company also stated that the app's software development kit has been improved. According to the Google Developer's Blog, the new SDK now features better drift control thanks to "a major overhaul of the sensor fusion algorithms that integrate the signals from the gyroscope and accelerometer." This should diminish the amount of "drift" wherein the displayed images continue to move even after your head has stopped turning.

Modern computing as we know it would not have existed without Dennis Ritchie, father of the C programming language and co-creator of the UNIX operating system. But who would play him in the movie?

Thompson, Ritchie, and Kernighan form an impressive trinity, but I doubt they actually affected Jobs or Gates much.
Oh, and I don't think they should have HP-UX going so far back -- as far as I recall that's just HP's rebranding of DEC's TRU64 UNIX.

"but I doubt they actually affected Jobs or Gates much"
As the NeXT and OS/X are both UNIX platforms, as is iOS, I'd say that their influence was strong on Jobs at least. Not as strong as the Xerox Pal Alto Research Center, which both Jobs and Gates visited and inspired the modern UI, but nonetheless, their work enabled both Microsoft and Apple to build the platforms we love and hate today.

Jobs was already a success by then.

That doesn't mean he stopped being influenced by anything.

Australia's highest court has ruled unanimously that a version of a gene that is linked to an increased risk for breast cancer cannot be patented. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Lives > Money? Easy, Australia. Let's think this through.

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?

Don't worry, the new trade pacts the US is trying to make in the pacific and EU will make sure balance is restored. Money will rule supreme.

Would they start suing us for breach of copyright it we had a 'patented' gene in our genome?

No, you simply have to pay them royalty for as long as the gene is within your system. Simple as that!

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Thursday called on the federal government to make computer coding classes a requirement of high-school graduation. Not sure if this will make code reviews in 20 years exciting or ... terrifying.
