Everybody has a website nowadays, but many of them are frustrating to use. The remedy: pay a guy named Richard $150 to get drunk and stumble around your domain. People do that for free here every weekend

This is genius! Why didn't I think of that?
If they pay in advance that can fund the drinking.
Be careful not to drink the profits.

Well, I could have almost done it for free with one exception i.e free soda

The Internet is an indispensable tool for education, but its use comes with the virtual certainty of exposure to undesirable elements. "What should we do next: Something good, something bad? Bit of both?"

Quote: Within countries, the young and well educated, as well as people who can read or speak English, are more likely to access the Net, the study found.
"That was surprising because we hadn't seen that demographic determining Internet access in these countries," Poushter said.
Have the sunshines responsible for this study ever actually used the internet? Anyone who hasn't spent the last decade+ under a rock should've known that.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has unveiled its plan for the future, and it’s a huge shift, marked by new goals in four main areas. Map and compass?

Big data + regional accents amongst earthworms - but I'm afraid I can't divulge the technical specifics.

Compasses will probably stop working as the magnetic poles shift due to global warming. So the gov't will instead spend trillions of dollars building up a huge, earth-wide, magnet, and then will discover that high frequency theta-wave oscillations can be used to control people's minds, which China will hack into to turn us all into Communists.

Don't they use OTA updates?

Windows is the number one desktop operating system by a wide margin, but you might be surprised at number two and three. Well, that was research money well spent

So how does Google get into this? Android isn't even second.
Your above post.

Bazel is a build tool that builds code quickly and reliably. It is used to build the majority of Google's software, and thus it has been designed to handle build problems present in Google's development environment. If you can't bill like Google, at least you can build like them

“Not Invented Here”, or “NIH syndrome”, refers to the tendency of organizations to undervalue external or third-party technical assets, even if they are free and easily available, when it is taken to an illogical extreme. "To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk."

GitHub has been continuously hammered for three days by a DDoS attack aimed at anti-censorship GreatFire and CN-NYTimes projects; the traffic is coming from China as attackers are reportedly using China’s search engine Baidu and malicious JavaScript for the purpose of “HTTP hijacking.” Remind me why everyone using a single system for version control is a good idea

Remind me again of why we let China connect to the rest of the civilized world. Their gov't wants their citizens to be brainwashed and not have access to "dissent?" Well then, I say, pull the Internet plug on them. And while you're at it, move manufacturing back to this country too. F*** 'em, I say.

And curmudgeony as ever.
But thanks for asking -- yes, new job is keeping me quite busy, plus still spending evenings and weekends on the old job, two other clients with a bug each to look at, and a contract I'm outsourcing because there's not enough time in the day. Oh, and did I mention finding time to practice the lyre, write the "Web Servers Succinctly" e-book, and do the reading for the psychology counseling certificate program I'm taking? Amazingly, I've had time post a short HOPE[^] video!
