A recent bug in Gmail resulted in some users accidentally deleting emails and reporting others as spam when applying those actions to other messages. So *that's* what happened to the email that told me I inherited $3,000,000

"Honey Encryption" generates a piece of fake data resembling the user’s real information each time a hacker fails to access an account, as is common in brute-force hacking.
No idea why it's called honey encryption, but it seems like it'll piss off hackers to no end. Take that, you Target account info-stealing bastards.

So the government is going open source, but the porn filter is still up and running. Riddle me that one, Cameron.

I believe "porn filter" is a bit generous. It has also been known to block sex education and sexual health advice sites, rape victim support sites, League of Legends game updates, a few political activist groups.
Some other examples: Dalek Dave may want to avoid this link, I don't think he's a fan of the Guardian.[^]
Not an inspiring start. I think I'll opt out (nothing to do with the top shelf material you understand).
Nontheless, I don'r really see why you shoe-horned it into a reference to use of OSS, which I applaud (and its quite rare I applaud the current shower).

I suspect it will be like when my employer's IT department came up with the brillant idea of putting an SGI box on every desk ~20 years ago. Everything went great until the frist box landed on the first secretary's desk. At which point the project was abruptly terminated.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

I see no reason why open source office applications should not suffice for the vast majority of users.
However, I suspect many of the departments may have more invested - VBA macros, interfaces to other systems, etc. which could make this "cost-cutting" exercise have a number of hidden costs.
I can just imagine the thought process.

CEO Hans Vestberg has told directors he has no plans to step down from the company following a report he is among candidates to take over from Microsoft Corp's Steve Ballmer.
Another one bites the dust. Just name Elop already and be done with it.

Any service that is going to require additional time, money or labor from a user should be opt in, period. Making something opt out is for cowards and scammers. If you think the new whatever might be unpopular but you want to make it happen anyway, you make it opt out and delay the outrage until after the implementation. That's how cowards run the shop. "You've got a nice army base here, Colonel. We wouldn't want anything to happen to it."

Google is reportedly nearing a deal to sell Motorola's phone division to Lenovo, a move that would give the Chinese smartphone manufacturer a major presence in the US market. News of the potential acquisition comes from both Reuters and China Daily, with both reporting that the acquisition could be announced within a matter of hours. IBM's hardware, Motorola's phones. What's next, Ford's trucks?

It seems that Microsoft may be facing a further dispute over its new OneDrive branding. Neowin has been in contact with Thomas Medard Frederiksen, chief operating officer of One.com, who says that his company is now "consulting trademark experts" following Microsoft's rebranding, stating that OneDrive is "a name that is very close to One.com's own cloud service." Well, that took a while
