I completely concur with this assessment, and I'm looking at myself. I came from C, but I prefer to code in C++. It just makes code organization a little (note a little...) easier. However, I see so many programmers that write C code, toss in through the C++ compiler and tada, they know C++.
The reference to templates is especially telling...

Amazon agreed Wednesday to pay a $25 million US civil penalty to settle Federal Trade Commission (FTC) allegations it violated a child privacy law and deceived parents by keeping for years kids' voice and location data recorded by its popular Alexa voice assistant. For those keeping track, that's about 26 minutes of revenue
Or about 2 days (give or take) of profit.

|
|
|

Quote: In addition to the fine in the Alexa case, the proposed order prohibits Amazon from using deleted geolocation and voice information to create or improve any data product. Odd (but typical in this case) use of the word 'deleted' here.

Researchers made the surprising finding that participants with higher intelligence scores were only quicker when tackling simple tasks, while they took longer to solve difficult problems than subjects with lower IQ scores. Yeah, that's why it's taking you so long to fix that bug

It takes only a second to pick up a hammer and give something a good whack.
It takes longer to determine _which_ hammer and how hard.
That the outcome is the same doesn't negate the importance of the process.

Windows 11 users who open the official Get Help support application of the operating system may be greeted with an advertisement for Microsoft's Teams application now. Of course it is

So, you pay for a product just to get advertisements and annoyed by the automatic missconfigurations? That sound really well...

The US Air Force official who shared a disturbing tale of a military drone powered by artificial intelligence turning on its human operator in simulated war games has now clarified that the incident never occurred, and was a hypothetical 'thought experiment'.
...
'We've never run that experiment, nor would we need to in order to realize that this is a plausible outcome,' he said. 'Despite this being a hypothetical example, this illustrates the real-world challenges posed by AI-powered capability and is why the Air Force is committed to the ethical development of AI.' Yeah right...
I suppose that if the "not realised experiment" would have end successfully, the news would say another thing.
or
Ethical and Military in the same sentence? I find it sounds even a bit weirder as with Google, Meta and Co.
