Since the release of the Windows 10 1903/1909 KB4535996 and Windows 10 2004 KB4557957 cumulative updates, Windows users have been reporting that they receive errors that programs are missing when they attempt to launch them. Sadly, Windows Update not one of the affected programs

Over the past few months, a new wave of bitcoin ransom scam has been reported which targets website owners by claiming their sites to be hacked and asking 1500 – 3000 USD worth of bitcoins. Hackers too lazy to even bother hacking the site before asking for money? Where is the world going to?

Hackers do the job and say noone, since they got more profit about secretism and screwing you up or using you to bring them to another better place than blackmailing you.

GitHub getting on board legitimizes movement aimed at removing racially-charged language from software. However, their second choice of 'slaveowner' may not be much better.

If the word "master" makes you think of slavery that happened over 100 years ago (i.e. no one alive now was alive then) the problem may be you...
Is this something that seriously offends black people or is this just some white people trying to overcompensate?
Personally, I think the word "black" (as in a person) is way more racist because these people aren't even black!
They're various shades of brown, but maybe I'm not allowed to say that because it's racist, I don't know.
At this point, "inclusivity" doesn't even make sense anymore.

What if my connotation of "master" in the sense of code branches was that of Sensei?

Oh good grief. Soon language will be like this:
In the biased view of the individual who has commonality to all of the human species but not implying superiority to other life forms such as animals and trees, because all individual views are biased as not being shared necessarily by the common (not to imply ordinary) group, the replacement of words (which are recognized by many [not to imply superiority]) as being biased in their multiple meanings (which are not known to everyone, again not to imply inferiority or superiority) is, (warning, emotive statement follows, reader discretion is advised) absurd.

Wine is actually fantastic. I have been using it for years and it works perfectly for most W32 applications (including SQL Server, graphics, serial ports etc.).
But I have never tried it with WPF applications until now.
It does not solve my Problem, but it answers my question

The project completes and success is declared! Then nothing happens. For months. No news of customers. No field bug reports. Complete radio silence. You forget all about the project, and you never hear of it again. Puts hand in air

We're pretty much driven by what the customer wants.
Conversely, what we want:
1. Clean up code
2. Rewrite code
3. Automate processes
4. Improve error reporting
5. Unit & Integration tests
6. Internal documenation
The customer doesn't care the least about (except maybe #4 indirectly), and #1 and #2 if they end up introducing bugs to things that were already working, because, after all, who actually does #5.
And for all of the above, "we" usually means only us developers to make our life easier, and getting management to sanction these activities, especially when "it works, why change it, and how much will this cost us" because management can't see beyond its collective noses, well, you get the idea.

In an exchange on Twitter this week, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk elaborated on the design tweaks his space company is considering to allow its massive Starship spacecraft to safely land on the Moon. I wouldn't think that landing was the hard part (safely; well that's another story)

The 'Destination Moon' method has always seemed very dodgy to me.

Just don't let them story nuclear fuel there.

If you work on any type of app that has a user interface (UI) you probably have experienced that inner-loop development cycle of making a change, compile and run the app, see the change wasn’t what you wanted, stop debugging, then re-run the cycle again. Just like webforms had back in 2000.
Edit: Actually, I realized that it was better in 2000, as you could use the designer side to edit the file and get the resulting (bad) code. This is still only one-way.
