The problem with new technology is that there typically isn't a lot of documentation on how to properly implement. Though surprised, I probably shouldn't be. I tend to let new technologies mature; so I don't waste time learning or worse, have security problems that will affect my users.

Shouldn't be "ARE exposed"? Isn't that "(many) data" and not just a "(single) datum"?
Again, isn't that "the Internet" requires the capital letter?

You are correct. However, since the corruption of the English language in the last century, "data" has been taken by many to be singular (e.g. the data is, rather than the data are).
I don't like it, but I also don't feel like fighting all the people who use incorrect English

Historically, you would be correct, but in modern usage data is typically used as both singular and plural, and the usage "data is" is more common.
