I'm stunned at how truly, deeply painful and awful Skype has become since being acquired. From the UI to the quality of the service to these bizarre "architecture" changes.
Every time I use Apple's FaceTime I'm always surprised at how seamless and simple it is. And this is Apple software - not exactly a bastion of easily discoverable UI's these days.

I wonder if they are making those changes to harmonise with Lync, so that they can then kill one of them and still have everything "working".

What, exactly, is the point of Skype on a phone? (Not just Microsoft; what is the point of Google Hangouts on a phone?)

Making calls when on WiFi, rather than the cell network?
Also, Skype et al also include text chat, so maybe that's a better answer?

Given how useless I continue to experience degree'd graduates are with regards to good design/programming practices and knowledge of modern tools and languages, I can see why API ranks 25% while a degree ranks 15%.
