The majority of infrastructure in the world still runs on Windows XP, including 95% of ATMs. That alone should disqualify Windows from being considered a "second-class citizen." At least for the moment. Once XP finally kicks the bucket, who knows.

Windows 8.1 will no doubt replace Windows XP as the ATM OS of choice. I mean, after all, it's touch-centric, right? (Only half of me is kidding, the other half...)

That may be true, but until someone actually solves the problem of input on a mobile device, I'll stick to a desktop for word processing.

Well, most things. A mobile is a useful supplementary device. PC's are selling slower because the market is saturated.

It has opened the door to book reading and literature to a lot of kids.
One thing I might agree with you, is that they could have merge the Harry Potter series as one entry instead of many in the list.

While commendable it itself, that does not make it something an adult should feel compelled to "read before you die". Great children's books, though personally I still prefer the Dark Materials trilogy.

There were a number of other children's books on the list (Goodnight, Moon for one example), so I don't think they mean the entire list for adult reading. Just, "to read sometime before you die."
However, the plot twists and characterization in "Goodnight, Moon"? Riveting.
