That's why I use Avidemux - it does as much as possible by stream copying, so there is no encoding and quality doesn't get affected. Also means combining multiple videos into one file takes seconds rather than minutes.

The best free one is Lightworks (but in it's free version it gets a max output of 720p).
I'm using VSDC to edit the company videos and I'm super happy with it... free, easy and powerful.
Hope this helps.

Some good suggestions already given. AviDemux should sort you out.
Openshot might be worth a try as well, but the encoding process is slow.

I always use the "old" ( = the one that came with windows vista ) Windows Movie Maker, but it is very hard to find, since replaced by a sh*tty newer version in Microsoft Essentials. If you are not after something that you will need more than one time, it is the best choice (IMO) -> It is free, very easy to use and fulfills all your requirements.

I use movie maker, it's easy for some simple stuff, but it can't do (to my knowledge) some stuff I like to do.
But thanks for the tip

I use Windows Movie Maker for this. See this[^] example. The jerky video in the first half is the fault of my camera, not WMM.

I have that mental picture of you now, by night, on your sofa, with a gin fizz, random watching your video recorded road trips with that jazz music in the background.

Already today: a web developer who says he has no idea how to use cookies or the session but is developing a "five pages of user input web app"; and an intern who wants a video to show him how to put checkboxes on a panel ... all eleven of them.
Is it my imagination or are they getting dumber and dumber?

This is what happens when we include the world into what we do here. These "web developers" you speak of, will not be here next year. You either have it, or you don't. You can't fake the funk.

But, alas, as long as businesses keep outsourcing because they think it will save money (and thus increase profits) these living mishaps will earn a living.
I've seen this happen, and pathetically, watched the bosses repeat the process. Hoping they get lucky each time?

I'd say you have have a recruitment problem. In my recent jobs it has happened often like we get a new guy and after a week I notice: wow this is a really smart guy.

Today, the minimum required IQ to be a developer has dropped quite a bit.
Companies are not usually looking for special talent. They can train a person in 2 months and have them do the same stuff a person with 2-3 years of experience can (with some scheduling and quality issue but nothing they can't handle).
In short, the work does not demand the same level of expertise it once did.

Yeah, but then these are the people who don’t change the default password on a database or something else equally dangerous. I hate to think off all my personal financial, tax and medical data that’s out there in the hands of people who can’t figure out how to put a checkbox on a form.

Sounds like they skipped the first day of training: How to Google stuff.

is it any wonder they're trying to develop AI to do that job

I would not say dumb... I think it is just plain laziness.
Why do I have to search for something and learn it by myself, if someone can tell me what to do every time?

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?
Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you
