Hi All,
Well interview done, I almost fell off my chair when they apologised for keeping me waiting. They were running late, so they kept me waiting a whole 5 mins !

Go well?

Yes, I think so, I had more experience of design and debugging embedded systems. They were after pure test.

As something a little different we've launched a coding challenge of the week. A weekly simple programming problem that should take no more than half an hour or so, with the best answer winning a CodeProject T-shirt.
The first challenge is up, and it's culled directly from a problem we faced internally: Coding challenge: bad word filter[^]
If anyone has any small programming challenges they'd like to submit for the next challenge please send them to me (chris@codeproject.com).
cheers

Does that mean I can or can't use Brainf*ck[^]?

Easy!
if(str.length() == 4)
{
str = "elephant";
}

Nice try, but that code doesn't take sunshines into consideration!
Anything that is unrelated to elephants is irrelephant Anonymous

Easier.
if(str.length() > 0)
{
str = "";
}
It's impossible filter for every single word that people may find offensive, so you need to get rid of them all. eg. "I like Ds. Big Ds. I like to think long and hard about Ds." Gets past pretty much every word filter there is.
|
|
|
|
|
I can optimize that!
str = "";

How long until someone copies and pastes the question in an attempt to get someone else to do the work for them.

Does this[^] count?

Exactly ! If it works and Chris gets by with it by only giving out a T-Shirt, I think we can name it a good deal.

I suppose we unit test using Michael's posts ?

Hi all,
Here I am sitting in the reception of a firm waiting for an interview. Following pro tips I leave time to get lost and find my way, traffic, Raptor attack etc. However of the two interviews I have had in the last week I have arrived almost an hour early. Please some tell me this doesn't make me seem a pain or over eager.
|
|
|
|

An hour is rather over-eager - I'd probably have walked around the area for fifty minutes or so and got there ten minutes early instead. Probably have grabbed something for lunch to prevent hunger in the interview itself.
Good luck though - hope it goes well!

Transport worked today oddly!

In those situations I go for a coffee nearby. I would not wait in the reception.

I was going to but there is not a thing around here. Apart from a closed pub and a primary school (I thought going into reception would stop being arrested as I wearing a trench coat!)
