Back from the good old days, a well Gnome greeting "Hippy Grew Hair".
And with that, I think I'll package it in for this ToD.

2020, or as we like to call it the Year Formerly Known as Jerkface, has been an epic rollercoaster ride through an open sewage pit. It was almost worse than having to watch all the Transformers movies back to back. Almost. Let’s be honest, many of us spent the majority of 2020 inside our homes, slowly losing our marbles while moisturizing with Lysol. Was there crying involved? You bet there was, that stuff stings. But there were even more non-Lysol related tears shed by the billions of people around the world directly affected by events in 2020. And to all of those people, we send nothing but love, strength and wishes of peace and happiness.
So long, never come back
We have a made-up saying in Canada: "When life gives you lemons, you cut those lemons up and squirt them right into life’s eyes. Then you steal life’s wallet. Then you buy shoes. The normal kind, not snowshoes." So go ahead, grab that juicy lemon and squeeze it right into the eyeballs of 2020. Then stretch out your little toesies, slide on your newly acquired dancing shoes, and let’s joyfully tap dance on top of what remains of 2020! Nothing beats celebrations born from spite! Except celebrations that come with discounts... of course. Didn't see that segue coming, did you?
2021 seems nice
The discounts are pretty self explanatory. It's end of the year, and we have to clear stock of these dusty old 2020 subscriptions before 2021 starts, so we're letting them fo for pennies on the dollar! Everything must go! Help us clear out a totally made up and non-existent warehouse of these Pro subscriptions, so we could make room for 2021 inventory, which will naturally be more expensive. Profit from our poor logistics skills and save $19.
They also provide (limited) free service. Nice folks, in general.

Indeed. For with it's aid I overcome my weakness'.
Interestingly, creativity is both a weakness and an asset. A weakness? Because I do get bored with things when I just have to "do them" and there's no value added in modifying it to something newer and perhaps better. Nonetheless, it is an asset for, as I've oft repeated, wherever I've been I've left a trail of new things that make things better. Yet, that's not the motivation; merely the history - for they come about to solve a problem so I can get on with solving problems.

And just who's new year is that one? Some have it in Autumn; others in the Spring - Chinese New Year teases the end of winter. But just what is Dec 31st->Jan 1st compared to any other monthly transition?
Banking New Year, I suppose.

Sneaking into abandoned buildings in Russia may be a dumb idea, but it may be worth it when that what the Russians were doing in there is still inside and you get away to post the video. Too bad the other hangar has collapsed and burried the remains of the other one that actually flew.

I removed the line and column counting from my JSON processor because I would have had to sacrifice a massive optimization to keep it.
Even though I used this information to debug my parser...
I thought I would be okay because the only code I had left to add was already tested and running in my older codebase.
I copied and pasted it. It no longer works.
I'm up a creek! *headdesk*

Edit: I figured it out. duh. and it's really too bad because only counting { and } is much faster.
Hey, you're a thinker. Riddle me this:
I want to scan JSON documents quickly, so I have a special function that works like string.IndexOfAny() does in .NET except at gigabyte/s speeds on modern machines.
I am looking for the end of the current object.
I stop at [ or { and increment a depth count.
I stop at ] or } and decrement a depth count.
Once depth hits zero I break.
Depth starts at zero so if there's no [ or { it will break at the next }
Why do I have to stop at [ and ] and count depths? Why can't I just count { and } since it's twice as fast?
For example
{
"foo": "bar",
"baz": [ { "a": 1 } ]
}
if i start in the inner most object i want to stop at the nearest end curly brace. If i start in the outermost object i want to stop at the final curly brace.
If I stop and count [ ] and it works. If I only count { } it doesn't. Why?
