Besides the fact that I don't see any reason to wear one in the car, but regardless, the police believe this particular person passed out while driving a car because of their mask.
It may turn out to be something else in the end, but still interesting and something to think about.

I read that too.
IMHO, the mask is not at fault here, but the stupid human driving the car. Of course you don't wear masks in the car or in your f'n house. Only in public areas.

Slacker007 wrote: the mask is not at fault here, Right. If you can stop breathing while wearing it, it could happen in a car or anytime so I doubt it was the mask as well. My guess is maybe they were wearing it wrong. Or it was faulty? Not sure. But the bigger point is probably why the heck they were wearing it in the car in the first place.

Maybe they were driving faster than allowed, and wanted to escape face recognition by the cameras?

Could be beneficial if you were a taxi driver - you would be less than 6 feet from your passenger

jsc42 wrote: you would be less than 6 feet from your passenger I'm sure you didn't mean it this way, but I am so tired of hearing the "6 feet" thing. There is no magic about 6 feet. You aren't in danger at 5'11" but at 6' you're safe. It's just a general guideline but it seems like so many people are walking around with tape measures taking it way too literal.

If you are a covid sick taxi driver, the you should stay at home.
To repeat what has been said multiple times: The masks are primarily for protecting others from you. Not the other way around.

Reasons to wear a mask in the car:-
1) If returning from somewhere you should wear a mask, do you want to take it off before you wash your hands. ?
2) Cars have pollen filters corona virus is 100th of the diameter of pollen so all those nice pedestrians and cyclists breathing out not 3 feet from your car are potentially breathing into your car.
3) Why not ?

I very seriously doubt that you can pass out or suffocate from wearing a mask. If you cut it into pieces, make two rolls, one for each nostril, and stuff the rest down your throat: Maybe. Maybe you could pass out if you run a full marathon with a perfectly fit mask. But sitting still in your car, doing practically no muscle activity? No, it would take a strong confirmation from medical expertice for me to believe in that.
If that was the case, the masks would be outright dangerous as soon as you start doing any sort of muscular activity, and there would be a big outcry. Which we haven't heard.

I have worn the mask today in the car beacuse I was buying in the supermarkt and I had to make a second stop in another shop 500 to 700 meters away. So I didn't take it off because I could couldn't wash my hands.
Once done in the second place, I took it off and drove back home.

I believe that in most states, it is ILLEGAL to wear a face-concealing mask in public! When these laws were passed, they were designed to thwart demonstrators, robbers and the KKK. They are currently being enforced against drivers who are trying to avoid facial recognition by red light and speeder detection cameras.
