I can't come up with a witty follow-up, but I'd like to commend on a good one!

I'm trying to make the link between your subject line and the actual message content.
If you're looking for API references, the online docs are probably still your best bet - at this point even the very last MSDN disc that got pressed is now horribly out of date. I've sent the few thousands I still had for recycling a few years ago.

Nobody wanted the discs when the company I worked for was acquired by a bigger fish and our local office subsequently got shut down. That was back when MS made everything available on CD/DVD, including all available languages.
Like you, I've kept the various binder types they came up with over the years--they're still useful. I also kept a small subset of the more unique discs, like the final 16-bit Platform Archive they had created in the early 2000s, as well as the very first MSDN release (from 1995, I believe, which fit on something like 14 CDs). I may still have "the very last of everything" somewhere. But I had tons of duplicates. No point in hanging onto those.

this MSDN library is most recent one: targeting .NET framework 4.5.1. I want to install one copy in case I have no internet access so that I still can do some research.

Any book by Jeffrey Richter should cover some of the advanced win32 stuff you can do.
Most of the rest can be figured out through the MSDN docs

Sit down, and describe what your goals as a programmer are. Describe what you already know, and what types of programming you have done. What OS's, languages, types of apps.
Share those here, and you may get some good ideas.

I think focusing on a specific language, and a specific platform, like .NET WinForm, or WPF, is a good idea in most cases.
Again, your background and goals come into play.
