Here we have "Sinterklaas", which is celebrated today btw, but this celebration is spoilt by shops already selling Christmas goods long before the 5th of december. Also in recent years there have been heated discussions about his helper "Black Pete" being too black. What a way to ruin the fun for the children who still believe in this fictional character

I thought Dec. 6th was the great day when you exchange gifts etc. - the St. Nicolas day. Do you celebrate both 5th and 6th, or do you get your gifts on the 5th?
I think it is completely wrong to picture Jesus and his family as anything but fair-skinned and blond, with blue eyes. They were nothing like Semite people of today, like Palestinians. No, they were just like us Caucasians. He is our saviour, he looked like us. And the Holy Virgin was at least 18 years before she met this Gabe fellow out in the fields; she was nothing like her girlfriends who were typically twelve or thirteen when they married. Just look at all the paintings of her with the baby boy on her lap: Does she look like a thirteen year old? No! The pictures prove that she was just like us, and more like twenty years old, maybe even more. There is no reason to believe that Saint Nicholas looked anything different from modern, bearded Western men. Just ask Coca Cola Compay - they know.

(political, climate, religious or whatever) will result in your account being removed.
Why all these members are still here
[Edit]
to be fair, "trolling" is mentioned in front of the brace
[Edit]
How I came to this post?
I was asking me, can I start a discussion here (because there is no SB anymore) about "vegan cars"? *)
Now the rules:
The Lounge is rated Safe For Work.
*) Is safe for work...?
If you're about to post something inappropriate for a shared office environment, then don't post it.
*) Depends who share the office
No ads,
*) It is not an ad
no abuse,
*) is it or is it not? I think not.
and no programming questions.
*) definitelly not a programming question I think. Ok one can maybe turn it to
Trolling, (political, climate, religious or whatever) will result in your account being removed.
*) Whatever fits, but trolling?
Can somebody answer this?
[Edit]
"Trolling, (political, ...." should be more "Trolling (political, ....." ?
It does not solve my Problem, but it answers my question

It's bound to offend somebody - the idea of "vegan" is offensive to all right thinking BACON worshippers, the idea of "car" is a mantra to some, an anathema to others. The combination is ... um ... unlikely, given the amount of dinosaur byproducts that go into even an electric car (plastics, oils, greases, fabrics, ... all can be oil based). Or do vegans not care about long-dead animals? I dunno ...
I'd assume it irony, not trolling myself, but I'm sure that will offend some!

Did you just offend yourself?

Would that be OriginalOffending, or meta-offending?

Because it results in fights and I think Chris just wants this to be a nice friendly relaxed place

There's the 'should' as in people 'should' be able to have conversations on any topic without descending into a fight.
Then there's the reality which is where, generalising, within a big enough population you will always find someone who wants to turn what could be a decent conversation into a fight.
Codeproject has a big enough population for that to happen.
So you kind of just have to suck it up and avoid those areas that will descend into a fight.
That's my take on it

Do you have to turn your car and license in when you hit a squirrel with that car?

So I was just testing some software with a client.
First actual test we did and it should work.
Except, it didn't...
We have this file definition and the file should end with EN EZ or something like that (it's not an actual file, but people keep calling it that).
The client imports the file and everything seems fine, except that it doesn't process the contents.
Check out if we're missing something in the database.
Copy the file contents and paste them in Notepad++ and notice that it's cut halfway (because EN EZ was missing).
The total length of the contents was 65,535 or 2^16 - 1, which is no coincidence.
Check the max length of a .NET string, no problem there.
It's constructed using a StringBuilder, also no problem there.
It's converted to JSON, also no problem there.
It's send to an external service using HTTP, but also no problem there.
The database field of NVARCHAR(MAX) should also be able to have more characters, so also no problem there...
The problem was the SQL Server editor, which apparently can't show (and thus copy) more than 65,535 characters
No problems there, move along...
The actual problem was that we had to check some checkbox in the importing application

I've had this with sql results too, just couldn't work out exactly why certain results were matching a query, to the extent of converting fields to ascii codes to see if I could spot something hidden in them. Turned out the text had multiple lines and the grid view only shows the first line, the text being matched was simply further down the field

I'd rather get hit by a bus on the way to a starbucks rather than taking a sip of the antpiss they serve there. I'm glad to be surrounded by local coffee shops that know how to brew a really good cup.
