A few of my co-workers are either vegan or no red meat, but they have the BK app and we all went in and got them for free. It does not taste like a burger. And it has an odd smell.
Worst thing was I couldn't get my money back- they shoulda paid me to have to eat that

I've tried it in both burger and sausage variants. It is... surprisingly like a cheap burger/sausage patty.
But as @Maximilien points out, pretty much worse for you than the burger it's replacing (better for the environment... maybe). Better to mash up some black beans n' mushrooms myself to make something.

/shrug. It's basically mashed pea protein and flavouring (and salt, salt, and more salt), so I can't imagine it's that bad. Probably on the same order as an abattoir.
Mostly better in terms of water and land use vs. moo-moos.

There's been some articles lately that point out there's absolutely no health benefit to any of these so-called substitutes, and can in fact make things worse as they're high in sodium (as if the western diet didn't already have enough of that).
Personally it's the "beyond" nomenclature that bothers me. It's got this connotation that says this is just the first of many steps the elite want to impose on the rest of us slaves. The next one would be to have us all get our protein from insects, and laughing at us while they're still eating steaks.
I don't buy any of the "feel good" alternatives offered by those who want to make us feel guilty about how we live. I'm leaving it at that before it degenerates into soapbox material.

Admittedly, I know next to nothing about those things, though I see the many advertisements for them. The skeptic in me, though, thinks it would be more accurately labelled 'Beyond meat profits'.

I read a great spoof of this where someone was planning to launch "Beyond Rabbit Food" or whatever they called it. It was going to be an all-meat carrot.
After looking it up, it might actually be true...

I'm personally producing plenty of methane avoiding plant stuff. I might as well not start and make things worse. That's my excuse.

It's like they're trying to sell good food to people who don't want good food
There's lots of tasty vegetarian stuff out there and it doesn't taste like regular burgers.
And I actually consider that a plus!

Impossible Burgers are fine. They taste close enough to beef that, with adequate toppings, you probably wouldn't know the difference.

In other words, drown it until you can't taste it anymore? Doesn't make for a very convincing argument.

It's fine, it's just not the best burger you've ever had.
I get them when my company's cafeteria has them (once every other week or so). They're usually better than the beef burgers because they haven't been sitting on the grill drying out for a half hour.

Then given a choice, I don't know why I'd settle for less. I'm not gonna lie on my deathbed wishing I should've spent a lifetime eating things I didn't enjoy in a feeble attempt to...what, exactly?

I do wonder if fast food is a young persons life style. I have not eaten fast food (burgers, fish and chips, subways etc) for decades. Being retired I now have the time an patience to cook my own.

My mother's got Alzheimer's, and she's become a ridiculously fussy eater--but for the worst. The only things she'll eat at any restaurant, no matter how fancy the place, are burgers, fries or pizza. My folks hadn't been at a McDonald's in 20+ years. These days during weekends (the only time they leave the house) they only alternate between that and A&W (which IMO is even worse than Mickey Dee's). Anything else will be left on the plate mostly untouched.
I can't imagine what they'll do with her once we have no choice but to bring her to a nursing home.

Well I BK burgers tend to haunt me for the rest of the afternoon, but when I see these veggie burgers advertised, the first thing I want to know - what crap are they putting in the mix to make them taste like burgers. Am I going to eat magic flat stuff to save the planet?

I've tried 3 things...
* Burger patty - it smell and taste like chicken sausage... I hate that so I will skip it next time
* Kebab - it was good, but nothing special... However as vegetarian I will probably buy it more to make my food intake more diverse
* 'Meat'balls - far the best - I already made it several times, as my carnivore wife and kids like it very much too...

I do not understand the concept. Either you eat meat, or you don't, but eating things without meat that have to look and taste like meat, what's the point ??
