I'm investing in pineapples: I heard a man on a bus saying that his mate's girlfriend works for someone whose dog overheard two guys in suits talking about getting into them. Must be good!

Don't you mean that your bitcoin is still "worth more" than you paid for it before Nov 17?
You are only "up" if you actually sell it for more than you paid for it.

You can sell it for $6500 today. Back then it was under $6000. Yes that is "up". You are right.

BC is still at 6400 dollar. Again, the title of your link explains why BC hasn't lost 80%, even though you are presenting it like that.

Means BC has not fallen 80%.
The average of the crypto's they looked at has fallen 80%. That is not the same thing. He is not missing reality, you are lacking reading skills.

How is the curve[^] of bitcoin value different from the usual Multi Level Marketing scams?
The game is inducing the largest number of people into buying a "starting packet", with revenues that becomes greater for the first investors and decrease until becomin net loss for the newcomers.

Fake TripAdvisor reviewer jailed | LinkedIn[^]
LinkedIn The owner of a business that wrote fake TripAdvisor reviews has been jailed in Italy for nine months. The criminal court in Lecce found the unnamed man, who was also fined around $10,000, tried to sell more than 1,000 positive reviews to hundreds of businesses across Italy. TripAdvisor has praised the “landmark ruling,” and says businesses that paid for fake reviews have been hit with penalties. This is the first time such a case has resulted in jail time.
