That's not a melted road. If it were there would be tracks. That's just roadbase failure.

Had to Google yours. Then I Googled mine and realized it meant something else almost opposite of my intent.

I guessed the (German) intent of yours, no problem!

I switched to Ubuntu once to save money and not have to buy Windows. Worst computer mistake I've ever made. After all these years, Linux is still hard to use. I had to use a different computer to get network drivers. Then had to run a bunch of sudo commands to get the drivers to work. I had to do so much manual stuff, even though I had common hardware, to get the PC even up and running. And then using it has been a pain. I've had many problems with it. I won't ever do Linux again.

I switched to Linux this year. Ubuntu on the first box, Mint on the other. I never had any problems. Sound, network, printer, media server. All fine.

- Me, probably, circa ~2001 (except the "saving money as the motivation" part)
If your Windows machine didn't have proper drivers for your NIC, wouldn't you have had to use a different computer all the same to get them? And then invoked some admin-level commands to get them going...?
That said, while Linux has gone a long way, it sure is still not without its quirks. For example, I have it running on a spare machine that gets moved around. One week it might be hooked up to one monitor via VGA, another week it might be hooked up to another monitor via HDMI, and yet another week it might be hooked up to both at the same time. Yet whenever I switch monitors, it gets stuck at the main Ubuntu splash screen (if you want to call it that). Linux still seems to be a lot less forgiving about hardware changes than Windows is.
