Brilliant. Makes TOTD worth every penny. Keep us abreast of any other great ideas.

How dose one treat such a comment? I'd like to inject something humerus, here, I've RN out of ideas.

Frankly, I see the all-in-one printer going to the wayside. Unless I have to scan 10 documents together as a group (which is rare), I just snap a photo of the document with my phone and send it email.

Completely unprofessional. Seeing a blurred JPG of a 5° rotated document mangled by lighting condition? I would refuse the document tout court.

Very true, but I have seen worse from home scanners

Yeah - you probably are the only one. Sadly, not really. I've received some of those 'documents'.
I fact, some of us even have dedicated High Resolution scanners.
Also, we own a "Camera" for taking pictures of things.
Old school - you know how it is - quality and all that stuff was/is important.

Really? A camera[^]? Is that practical?
I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them were cats.

Not only practical, but aesthetically pleasing in and of it's own right.
Actually, in real life, I even had a view-camera for a while, loading with sheet film.
And the quality was worth it. They're still around.
. . . skip many steps . . .
Now, my current favorite is a Kodak Z990 - last camera before the bankruptcy. 30x Schneider zoom - crystal clear throughout the range. Super Macro's my favorite when not stuck doing photos of family and such.

For those of us who never progressed to the SLR level a phone camera can give better resolution than a lot of cameras, especially if it is a few years old. I dumped my old cannon SLR when my phone did a better job.

And it faxes too! And the little screen tells me when a robo-call is coming in (I keep the ringer turned off).
Plus, I also scan negatives and slides.
So, yes, I scan. And my wife needs to fax medical documents.

I still scan some things - mostly Herselfs photo collection - and I also use it to copy documents (I like a copy of everything I'm supposed to sign so I can refer back to it later if needed).
It's also damn useful if you need a little OCR.
Frankly I'm surprised printers have survived this long - I use mine as a printer mostly for personalised birthday / other cards these days.
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Oddly enough, I have some ink cartridges due to arrive, today - the one I've been refilling was out of use so long it's longing to see its ancestors.

A funny story: I have a flatbed scanner in my home office that mostly stays turned off. My wife has one of those 'all-in-ones' with a scanner in her office. When she needs to scan, she will bring whatever documents so that I can scan them and email them to her. Why not use her own...because the last time she tried to use it (years ago) it didn't work, and besides, that would mean having to move all the files/folders stacked on top of it. It's just easier if I do it for her!

Haha, sadly I understand the situation all too well. Having to scan means uncovering the all-in-one so that I can open it, then unplug all the cords from my laptop (which is difficult to replug back in because the power cord has to be positioned just right so that it charges), move it across the room and plug it in, wait for it to scan, reposition it if the page didn't scan correctly or moved. It's a 10 minute ordeal when I can get just as clear and well positioned document with my camera in half a minute.

I've only ever done that once in my life, and that was because I was away from home, and somehow needed a copy of a sheet of paper that, in turns out, would've been wider/taller than my scanner.
Had I had access to a scanner, I still would rather have a document that was scanned from 3-4 positions and then manually stitched back together.

My wife used to physically file all of the bills into different folders when they came in. It was mutually decided that I would take over bills and I wasn't going to file them, so I scan all the documents that come in. For the medical ones, I write the payment details on them before scanning. This makes it easy to retrieve any document I need.

Somewhere, I have a handheld Mustek scanner...two passes down the page, then the software puts the two halves together to recreate the page. Usually.

Oddly enough, I used my scanner yesterday as someone gave me a physical copy of a photo.
The all-in-one scanner/copier/"empty" cartridge holding device certainly took some excavating - definitely the first time it had been used in a year or so and it will shortly be heading back to semi-dead-kit-corner.

Hi, I'm not a programmer, I'm ok with computers though and have taken a couple security classes and other types of classes (originally I was a computer support major), but I was wondering if someone could explain something to me. Recently my computer got hacked by a guy I know and he was doing some things to change the appearance of webpages. For example on instagram, he made it look like some people posted pictures they they actually never posted.
I asked around on some other forums and one person who told me he had a job in computer security said what I explained wasn't possible because the URL was a legitimate URL. Nobody seemed that interested on the hacking and security forums I asked on. Anyway, I hope to get some help here. Also if there's anyway I could turn the pages back to their original form that would be nice to.
Now the guy who hacked me I thought said something about the DNS being changed? Is that what is going on or something more complicated or completely different?
