The real question is: Does the geek know how to handle it if he should ever be so lucky?

(No, not the conference; the site where you could report bugs directly to Microsoft so they could be ignored for years before being closed as "by design".)
Am I the only one who missed the announcement where Microsoft told us that "Connect" was being shut down at the beginning of January?
After nearly 10 years, Microsoft Connect has been retired in favor of new tools and services that will continue to allow you to engage with Microsoft. If you are a member of an active Connect program, your program has either closed or moved to one of these tools or services.
...
DevDiv / Visual Studio and .NET Framework (Connect Site ID 210)
Please contact vsconn@microsoft.com for the status of the program.
So now we've lost the complete history of bug reports and workarounds, including any active bugs that hadn't been fixed yet. And the replacement is ... nothing?!
I know the site had it's problems; but this seems like a particularly bone-headed move.

Then you missed a treat!
You could report a bug, which was clearly a bug, and it would be closed as "by design". (When it first started, us mere mortals were able to re-open bug reports. But MS quickly put a stop to that!)
You could report a bug, provide step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce it, and then a support drone would close it as "not reproducible" because they hadn't read the instructions.
You could report a bug, provide step-by-step instructions *and* attach a project to reproduce it, and it would be closed as "postponed" because "it's too late to fix it for the next release". Needless to say, once that release was out of the way, the bug report would never be looked at again.
And sometimes, if the stars were aligned just right, you managed to attract enough votes to your bug report, and your luck was in - sometimes, the bug might get fixed five or six years after you reported it.
Did I mention that it wasn't perfect?
