I suppose so, but I really do not want to go in the loop Backup everything -> Install win7 -> find bizarre drivers for hp cheap hw -> reinstall 50+ software I run on my computer -> retweak all the small tweaks done to get it to work properly -> Debackup the backups.

Well, looks like thats the only way.
And then take backup, I like Macrium backup, then you can go back to whatever stable snapshot you like.

I know, I never went into this because of the cost - I'd need 2To or 4To, which is not that much but not so inexpensive anymore - and because of active procrastination.
The backup is not really the PITA part, it is more the SW reinstalling stuff. For instance, I am using Money for personal finance, and installing it on Win7+ and get it to work properly is not easy.

Take a deep breath, sigh, set up your stack of disks, and start the process. After a few hours you will be done, and back in business.

I don't know about you, depending on what you do for a living and your hobbies etc it can take days to reinstall software. You might be up and going shortly, not everyone else will be.

It varies, but every time I have done it it takes about a dayy to get it all done, installed, backed up, and ready to go.
And of course ALWAYS take backups, then you can go back to a known good point. Macrium is my favourite, very easy to use.

Don't buy HP. Just.. don't.
I stopped counting the amount of HP related desktop and laptop problems I've seen over the years.
The oddest one was a laptop with a modified Windows 8 install image on it with less drivers than the stock Windows 8 image. As a result, it had no Ethernet and no Wi-Fi out-of-the box.
On the plus side, it was priced pretty cheap and the MB broke in the last month of warranty.

That's a definition of "plus side" I'm not entirely familiar with.

If all else fails, you might consider running W10 in a virtual machine. Doesn't matter what host, W7 or even Linux. VMware's player is free and there are others. If you get your machine running, you can run (free) tools to create a VM from it, which precludes reinstalling programs. Don't know about reactivating stuff, if you clone the MAC address that satisfies a lot. I run W10 under Linux and it runs fine and (most of the time) updates are OK.
Unlike 100's of millions of other users, I have to fiddle with it after some updates.

Mostly croutons & tomatoes.
Really just one big round crouton covered with tomato sauce.
And cheese.
FINE, it was a pizza.
I ate a pizza.

Its not HP nor is it an artifact of obsolescence. I have a 4 month old Microsoft Surface Pro 4 that had that exact thing happen a week or 2 ago. I just took it to Best Buy's Geek Squad because I have a "2 year warranty" with them after buying the computer in July, and they had it fixed in about 3 hours. If you can't fix it yourself, take it to a tech, 'cuz its the <> update that did it, not your computer.

I don't have any PC's that were minted any less than about 4-6 years ago. My main development box is a Dell XPS 8300 (i7/2600) with 16GB of main and a 1TB SSD. The machine is just flat a processing monster and running Windows 7 as are all my other PC's (of which I have 5). The XPS and a couple other machines are also i7's ... plenty of power. Enough of this upgrade nonsense. I've played with Windows 10 (wasted entirely too much time with it, too) which I call the "adware" version of Windows. Until and unless I'm forced to go to Windows 10 because one of my machines just has to be replaced I'll drive this equipment into the ground.
Equipment obsolete? Perhaps the "market" thinks so, however I can still develop and deploy solutions that run even on the latest hardware without having to go to it.
Twisted world? Yup. Just for the record, you do NOT have to stick with the "upgrade train" that the market wants to put you in.
