But for those who look to catch up with cloud terminologies.
been comparing storage prices on cloud, wondering what the heck would be these 'temperature' based schemes.
Object storage -
Got a file that you need to put in the cloud? Object storage is the service for you. Again, the cloud providers have different types of storage, classified by how often the customer expects to access it.
“Hot” storage is data that needs to be almost instantaneously accessible.
“Cool” storage is accessed more infrequently,
& "Cold" storage is archival material that is rarely accessed. The colder the storage, the less expensive it is.

I remember when they called it Online, Nearline and Offline.
And it meant, SCSI, SATA, backup robot. I suspect it's a similar setup today.

Yup they go round trying to give proper names & finally settle for one good dumb set of names.

Well, they're targeting people who are daft enough to pay them a fee every month for storage that costs next to nothing, if it's sitting on the desk, so they have to use terms appropriate to that audience.

This is actually normal terminology on the security side of the house.
As part of the targeted audience it makes perfect sense to me, since data integrity is a "branch" of security.

God bless the $%#&@%$ &%$#*@# at microsoft!
We've had office 365 for weeks and weeks. This is my first excursion into it, and what do I get?
All I wanted to do was create a cross-reference, but what do I see?[^]
WTF am I cross-referring to, and what kind of cross-reference am I making?!?
They never fix any bugs, they add unusable cr@p that no-one wants, and they break things that worked perfectly well!
For God's sake, linux wallahs, get your fingers out!

Nothing wrong with going on old school, too much of today's crap is way over bloated to allow people who shouldn't be on computers to not feel stupid

Well yeah... but some of the old is really neat; malware has real problems calling home when your TCP stack has been removed and replace with Banyan Vines and IPX/SPX
