Yeah, as a matter of fact, I did manage to convert my hip tea kettle mat into a fully functional Ubuntu notebook, late last night at 1 AM.
Everything seems to work except one silly thing. Sound is fine in the browser from Youtube. But my favourite radio station Radio Paradise is mute in Firefox. Prolly some codec stuff I need to check tonight.
I Googled and experimented meself blue with secure boot BIOS settings. The secure boot options did not seem to matter. What did the trick (after 5 hours) was to disable UEFI and go into legacy mode as Nelek and Mark were quick to suggest.
The leap of faith was not a huge one. I saw several "success stories" involving similar models. And even if this or that shipment of "Acer Cloudbook 11" could have different chipsets I expected a low risk of complete failure, chipset-wise. And at that price the mat alternative was no tragedy.
As for Ubuntu reboots/updates, mentioned by Nathan Minier I have never seen one on any machine.
Anyway, it's a bit of geeky fun, and it makes me feel quite special, to not own a Wookie Notebook!

This is Javascript. If you put big wheels and a racing stripe on a golf cart, it's still a f***ing golf cart.

"No, from Canada."

Yes. Here, at the lounge!
What will happen if you assign the session id (that one from the IIS) to the JavaScript links in your web page (dynamically)?
(No mercy in our new brave world )
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.
