Can't you manually name the pieces of heading with something like

Well, actually it makes me murderous, but that doesn't work out too well, either as a pun or as a life achievement.

Absolutely 100% agree!!
As if we didn't learn HTML MARKUP for a reason. Now, I need to learn proprietary markdown!?! Ugh.
I know, sites are attempting to store markdown in databases and DBs don't allow markup to be stord for security reasons. It's still annoying.

Why do we need another formatting definition with obscure syntax? What ever happened to a nice WYSIWYG editor? And every site I've used markdown on, there are enough variations that something I learned how to do on one site doesn't work on another.

True, but I can complain when change is taking two steps backwards and zero forwards!

Well, it's lightweight. Just look most generated HTML from a WYSIWYG editor. I think it's great for non-techy people or stuff like quick readmes. I'd not make a webpage with it, but for simple stuff it reminds me a lot of Wiki editing.

Ah, that's what it reminds me of too. I haven't done wiki editing in years, forgot about that.

Just wait until they make you write wiki's in markdown.

I recently ran into the same problem on GitHub. I couldn't figure it out so I used the Wiki tab to create the documentation so I could easily add links via regular HTML MARKUP.
The readme was quite annoying and a waste of time to learn how to use special markdown when I know markup.
Oh, my readme says, "Check out the Wiki tab for more info".

Really? Tell me more! It seems this problem may have started some time ago - perhaps in your childhood? 0xF0r what it's worth, new meds for 8-bit trauma are still under development. Just hold on a little bit longer.
