I don't get it. Most of my friends are playing it, and at least a couple coworkers...
I mean... I played Ingress for a while, when it came out. Couple weeks. Got bored, and felt like an idiot for playing it even that long. And now there's a new one that combines Ingress with weird animal-mutant-monster-cartoon thingies that come out of plastic balls.
I won't be downloading it.

I thought so too.

It's a really very popular game.
Probably the first that puts AR to (really) good use.
The guys who made it are making big bucks out of it.
And here you are calling it stupid.
I've got some bad news for you...

People in the 80's and 90's made millions from selling "pet rocks". That was stupid, too. Not for the sellers, but the buyers. Same here.

Meh. The cut-off date is just to instill a false sense of security. "Security" updates to Weven and Wait after that date will still make your machine more and more like winio.

Microsoft == Borg
So I'm prepping a computer remotely for my client, for a demo they want to do today. We had to reboot the machine (or it decided to reboot on its own, I wasn't watching.)
Anyways, Microsoft is stuck on installing update #5 of 244.
I feel assimilated.

It's really not my imagination that infinite loops have increased by a very large factor since wins 8 & 10, despite the myriad tools that are in place to prevent them.
It's worse than the DOS days.

DOS - 16-bit
Windows 95/2K/XP - 32-bit
Windows 7/8/10 - 64-bit
Ignoring increases in clock speed, infinite loops today take at least 2^48 times longer!
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

244 updates? Was this a new install?
No good ever comes out of letting the update backlog grow this size.
A few months ago MS release a "convenience update" for Windows 7, which basically amounted to Service Pack 2 in every way but name only. If that's the OS, perhaps it would've been worth going down that route instead.

Probably too late for now; but MS has put out rollup updates for Win7/8.1 that will mash all the patches into a single lump and presumably avoid the multiple rounds of install dependencies for X, install X, install patches for X hell that comes with a fresh W7/8.1 install.

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?
