It WOULD be funny if it wasn't so embarrassingly close to the truth. They actually ARE that stupid! How they ever won the election and replaced one of Europes most internationally acknowledged competent governments is a true mystery to me. But it's definitely not going to happen again. Their popularity is constantly reported to have reached new lows. Right now, it's close to the bottom of the Mariana Trench.
Prime minister Löfven is rude, crude, stupid (when he was recently representing Sweden in India, he thought he was in China!) and can't form a coherent sentence in any language, and certainly not in English. Apart from that, he's a lying SOB that breaks EVERY promise he makes - sometimes as little as two days after he has made them. Yeah, yeah, I know, all politicians are like that, but he doesn't even try to hide it, he's actually proud of it!
Åsa Romson, Deputy prime minister and Minister of environment and climate is even more stupid. She's known for painting her own boat with poisonous and illegal paint and happily flies everywhere with an airline company she's campaigning to shut down because of environmental issues.
Our minister of housing, Mehmet Kaplan is constantly being reported in the media for consorting with right-wing extremist islamists. But the oh so PC cabinet doesn't dare fire him.
I could go on and on, but I'm already about to pop a vein, so I'd better not.
Rant over!

Yes, this is April 14
Yes, there will be a huge number of calls to an income tax software company.
And no, you can't get through to a living human.
Nor can you get the software to download.
This, after paying them money.

When the Swedish tax agency opened their online tax declaration site a couple of weeks ago, it was completely sunk by all the requests and unavailable for several hours.
Apparently, it came as just a big a surprise to the tax people as the fact that it snows every winter comes to the train companies (EVERY winter)...

I've only one question - and since you posted you've sort of volunteered to answer it (or at least be subjected to it).
Why do you wait until April 14th for this? Some financial document might not arrive until a month or so into the new year - but after that - waiting doesn't save anything - just risks excessive stomach acid flow induced sores.
Even when I had to do partnership taxes in order to do my regular taxes I still had it roughed out (I new the numbers) and left myself some leeway.

The amount due is fixed.
So -
one could have the money in what passes for a good saving account (1%), which amounts to about 87 cents/month per $1K.
But,
if you owe a lot of money then you'll likely have penalties accumulating at a substantially higher interest rate because you underpaid your withholdings.
Now - on the other hand - if they don't have the money to pay to begin with and waiting allows them to raise the funds - then they could avoid userous loans. They could also be expecting to die before it's due and leave the debt to whoever will clean up after them.
But, I'm no tax attorney or brilliant accountant. What have I missed?

For example, let's say you'll end up owing $5,000. But you have $10,000 in your savings account. Just wait till the end and pay the $5,000. No penalties.

The law is you must (pre)pay (withholding+prepayments) the lesser of 90% of the taxes due or as much as paid in the previous year. So - if you owe more than either of these amounts you can be hit with a penalty for underpaying your withholdings. I felt the sting of this once.

I'm not sure what you're talking about with all this, all I was doing was giving you 1 example of where it makes sense to wait to pay.

Pretty sure you can file early and schedule the payment for later (ie. April 15th).

By doing this on the 14th, there is a psychological imperative which allows true prioritization.
It's interesting how many "immediately urgent" matters just aren't so urgent and just aren't so immediate.
I wish I had the discipline to invoke this kind of mindset every day of my life.
Oh, and update to my original post: they fixed their phone, I spoke to a human, and I'm back in action on my taxes.

Hard to have much sympathy for folks who wait until the last moments to file... particularly when they are relying on PC's, the internet, etc...
Good luck!
BTW - Pretty sure the US federal deadline is Monday, April 18 this year if that helps.
I've used TaxAct for more than a decade without issue, but then again I usually file in February.

Maybe they ought to concentrate on artificial stupidity??? They seem more successful in that area...

Personally, as Griff can vouch for, I've been researching the possibility of Alcohol Enhanced Intelligence™ (desperately seeking the Ballmer peak). But it's not working out quite as expected.
Oh well, guess I just have to continue trying... I think I might even have to sacrifice my weekend in the name of science
