It's probably a development for recent refugees from California. Using every in of the lot to build a bigger home is intended to feel more like where they came from.

Yes, I got the point, always read the license terms but in the end do click the "I agree" button. However, why should we even read the GNU license?

Even software that is "free" comes with terms, in respect to limiting the things you can do with it. Free is also only pointing toward initial cost of acquiring the license, not the cost of ownership, nor does it mean that it is without copyright - but that's not the point.
Fact is, if I provide work for free, I can still limit what you are and are not allowed to do with it. It is what drives this site; most of us choose the CP-license, which is about sharing without prohibiting commercial activities. It would still be crappy if your work was "free of rights", as opposed to "free to use" - would mean that other sites would plagiarize your article, killing your incentive to write them in the first place.
Now, I'd strongly recommend to learn the difference between GPL and LGPL, as it might make a slight difference in who owns your code; it may upset a boss or two if you get it wrong

Because, at the end of the day, who doesn't enjoy reading legalese? Pull up a chair, pop some popcorn, and don't sell yourself short on the good family fun that can come from reading paragraphs of gibberish pertaining to exactly what you can and cannot do with said software under certain events such as the end of the world[^].
