Welcome back Walt, hope the ribs heal and you get back on your feet soon. Sounds like you've had a full plate all around. Good luck with the schooling and stop in and say hi whenever you get a chance.

Welcome back, Walt!
It sounds like you and my wife had your strokes at about the same time. I'm glad to hear you are doing well. I know that the recovery process is difficult, from helping my wife through hers.

Thanks, Gary.I hope your wife is doing well. At thehospital the nurses toldme that most men have left sidearalysis and most women have right side paralysis after a stroke. I haveleft side paraysis and left neglect.and thet put me through lots of neurophychology tests.

My wife has some minor paralysis on the right side. Her major effect was to the language centers in her brain. Immediately after the stroke, she could only speak in two word phrases. Now, she's recovered about 60% of her speech capability. She searches for words, and has problems spelling.
Best of luck, and take care.

I was fortunate, the neuropsychologists told me that my language was intact
(interestingly, right after the stroke, I could speak and understand Spanish, better than English, my mother tongue.aThey say my my math and logic are intact, so I'm good to go.Sometimes I feel like a brilliant mind trapped inside a useless body, but I think losing my mind would be much worse. At least now I can keep myself entertained by trying to solve differential equations in my head.

Welcome back Walt! Good to hear it sounds like you are on the road to recovery. Good luck with you're defense.
What's you're dissertation on? Is it shareable?

Thanks, Marc! I think I'm reasdy for my defense. My 2 supervisors have already grilled me on all the details as I worked on my research. My dissertation is titled"An Integrated Model for Optimizing Production of Marginal Oil Fields". It's basically a big numerical model solving the equations for fluid flow for all of the pieces of equipment in an oil field, simultaneously.
Shareable? Yes, I can send you a copy if you're interested.

Sent. Lret me know if you got it and if it makes any sense!!
In themeantime, I've applied for admission to business school.
I don't really need or want another degree, but I'm hoping I can learn how to make some more money for my retirement next year.
I've already been auditing some classes and it should be interesting.

Hah, I know what you mean. Happily, software development is a playground, hobby, and profession all wrapped into one for me. It feeds both the kid and the adult in me.

I was actually thinking about you last week. Had not heard from you in a while. I am glad you are on the mend. Stomach wounds are the worst in my honest opinion, but since I never hurt a rib, I can't make an honest comparison - I will take your word on that.
Take care.
