I did not see that one.
I see John is writing a book, perhaps?

So you are saying if the CP members try to save some bytes on the CP's DB servers by not posting anything for a while which results in saving net data transfer over the globe and which "ultimately" results in boosting the life of this planet by a few years, that surprises/upsets you?
Please note that the posts here in the Lounge are for lazying and discussing a software developer's life and hence they are futile. So saving some bytes on the servers by not posing them is a good thing. The cat-videos on the internet on the other hand, are a vital thing to keep the human-life on this planet ongoing.
Your time will come, if you let it be right.

I bought a Windows Phone about a month ago.
I've recently installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop.
I've a subscription to Office 365.
I've been enjoying how everything works together and I love the live tiles.
I'd like to eventually get a Surface Pro 3.
I think it is a snazzy little ecosystem.
I hate to see Windows Phone not do well - I just don't see what is so wrong with it that it isn't selling better.
I guess I think it is a really good product.
I don't understand the hate - and the diminishing market share.

"One OS to rule them all" is not what most customers want.
|
|
|
|
|
I doubt your assertion.
Given the learning curve for an OS I think most people would want exactly that.

People don't want the same controls on their microwave ovens as those that are on their gas or electric ovens, because they are used for entirely different purposes.
The telephone and the computer are far less alike than ovens and ovens.
Win phone is bluddy brilliant.
Win 8 is a pain in the @rse.

Explain iOS to me then.

I'll translate PIEBALDconsult's post for you:
"I'm an Apple fanboi. When they do stuff it is awesome; however, when Microsoft does it then it is doody-headed. [insert fart noises]"
^---- PIEBALDconsult will claim that is a mis-translation but you shouldn't believe his lies.
I'm glad I could help.
If you need any other posts translated just ask.

iOS doesn't run their lappies, does it? Isn't that Mac OS X? I thought that was different?
But iOS runs on tablets, and phones, just like Android does.
And no, I'm not an Apple fanbois: they sell overpriced, over hyped tat.

How's their market share looking?

And since when has popularity been a hallmark of quality?

In my opinion, the big problem is that Microsoft don't believe in it.
The only reason they've come up with the Windows Phone is to try and cash in on the mobile market. I'm sure that they'll drop it eventually (they have a long record of dropping projects) and focus on tools for mobile app development by buying Xamarin.
That's where they should be really, software, unless they're making high-end seamless systems (which Windows Phone, Windows 8/8.1/RT, Surface (again, in my opinion) aren't).

Yeah. Let's be honest, they aren't good at making physical products: Tablet PC[^], XBox360[^], ... and they do have a habit of sticking fingers into companies and trying to make them "better" when they buy them. And in effect giving them a Ribbon and a SHOUTY menu...
Sometimes I wonder if MS know what they are good at?
