Restarted computer last night after Windows Updates. Just logged on for first time and before even opening Google Chrome v38.0.2125.111 I have over 69 Million reads and over 32 million writes.
See image of Task Manager showing IO : http://newtonsaber.com/images/codeproj/chromeReadWrites.png[^]
This thing is an IO Monster.
What is it doing? And why?

Unfortunately, this update kind of trashes the cache so it's just downloading all your bookmarked content. That much pron doesn't come cheap!

First. What you are seeing is Read/Write bytes...
But I have a Chrome running over 2 hours now and got less than half of your reads and 1/8 of writes...
What version is it? I may want to block it...Already have it...

Good post. You are right.
I was lazy and should've pushed that splitter further right so I could see it was bytes.
My I/O read/writes are only at 120K & 116K.
My hard drive was just going crazy though.
I like to blame something and chrome was available.
I guess it is 69MB of all my stuff that chrome knows about.Wow.

Read/Write values are function of time too - it can be that your Chrome is opened for a long time...

Indeed. It's actually a wonder the stats are so low, because I start Chrome immediately on startup, and that's about once a day max.

So, by all means, come on down heah to Queue-A, join the rest of us demons, imps, golems, succubi and incubii, ifrit, djinn, etc.: we got the sulfur winds blowing strong 24/7, no shortage of piping-hot junk-food, and you can be sure everything is hellaciously democratic because the damned torture their torturers just as skilfully as the torturers torment the damned !
We got low-down down-payments, low interest rates with fiendish balloon payments, low survival rates, and a rating system that can be whipped, but not beat. Five minutes before the exam; homework undone; hung-over, addled, high ... don't worry: we got a plan for you !

Sounds like you're using a MySQL back-end. It also sounds like you're confusing the difference between a charset and a collation. The former is to represent characters on screen, the latter is for ordering and sorting based on the charset you've chosen. You cannot set a charset to a collation. Also, make sure your front-end and back-end charsets match.

One thing you have to consider is that earlier versions of Windows won't work well with UTF-8 with BOMs, and more recent versions won't work well with UTF-8 without BOMs.
The most obvious thing to do is just smile vacantly, until they come to take you away.

The English Football Association has been accused of damaging the image of Fifa and flouting bidding rules in its attempt to stage the 2018 World Cup.
Pray tell, just how do you 'damage the image' of FIFA? Is not being a corrupt money grabbing backstabber considered against the ethics of the game?
I am no great fan of toe ball, but this stinks like the stinkiest thing in the Stinky Game at Stingville, Stink County! I'm not saying the FA are clean, far from it, but they are verging on beatification compared to Sepp Blatter and his C**k Womble Cronies.
