I knew Pompey fans were living on past glories, but...

2008 is not that long ago. Not compared to, say, 1958 for example.

Even by 1958's standards Peter Beardsley was old fashioned.

I remember watching that match. Where I'm not sure, but I remember the match.
Cheating Argentine Bastard scored the best and worst goals in any World Cup in that match.

I was a Kid and it was my first World Cup in memory. I remember getting up really early before my parents and watching what must have been repeats/highlights of the previous nights games. I could see then, as an under 10 year-old how special a player he was. I also remember watching the quarter final live with my parents on the night and can remember my disbelief when they told me that it wouldn't be replayed and the result would still stand.
He is in my opinion the greatest player that ever lived.

I would have been 19, but I don't remember where I was; sounds familiar. For Italia'90, I know I was in Cairo and four years later in equatorial Northolt. I do remember the game though, it showed the full range of the Cheating Argentine Bastard from toeballing maestro to down and out cheating rotten bastard. But I'm not bitter.

As a side note, I cheered at England team fairness. That allowed that masterpiece of His Majesty's second goal.

Uhm.
I believe you have to wait until we'll split the team into 'Padania', 'Central Italy', 'Mezzogiorno' and 'The Isles'.

You won't be able to play for penalties this time.

No need. It's not rugby. England is not a concern.

The problem is the endless tedious over-optimism mixed with wailing and gnashing of teeth until their inevitable defeat by the Elbonian 3rd Reserves.

You only have one striker and our boys know how to knock him off his game. Would you like a bet. How much Italian Lira German Euros would you like to bet?
