Not necessarily because it is good, but because of the cost of upgrading to a newer operating system.
If the organization is unionized then any change to the environment means that training needs to be given to all employees. One cannot expect a union worker to take it upon themselves to learn anything on their own.
Even going from one office release to another entails training for each employee, a costly process for limited rewards.

XP was a great O/S. It worked the way it should and was a major improvement on the likes of Windows 95/98 bring the stability of Windows NT to the masses. I am still happily running it on several "internal only" duty machines.

Cough, Cought, I still have and use a Win 2000 machine (mostly for running old bits of embedded software that won't run anything newer), man you could throw rocks at it and wouldn't crash.

Emphasis on *was*. It was a major improvement on 9x in stability and 2k in compatibility with consumer software; but it dating to before MS was serious about security showed in it having infection rates about 2x as high as vista and 3x as high as w7. It's long since overstayed its welcome. Good riddance.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Its going to be a few years before I actually see the back of it as we have legacy systems that won't work on Win7.
So I have to still help support 55 XP machines as we (IT Dept have Win7).

All in all, I find XP to be the most stable version of Windows in my experience.
I have equipment and software (that I spent more on than the wife thinks I should have) that runs better on XP for recording music Also the XP drivers are more stable for the multichanneel audio IO. The system is optimized for recording and has worked flawlessly for years. Of course part of the optimization is turning off all networking services and running without AV.
Since it is a stand-alone system I should not have to be concerned about security issues. That, and I have it imaged so if for any reason, or for hard drive upgrades I can simply replace the image and be ready to go in short order.
I'm sad to see it go.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

Hi Buddies,
I'm from Brazil and my fiancee moved to Germany to study by a government program for one year and a half.
I'm looking for companies that would accept me working from home that will give me flexibility to stay with her in germany, in Aachen especifically.
If you guys now how to help me in someway, I would really appreciate.

Why would you want to work from home ? Getting a job in a foreign country is not easy, so starting right away with such constraints will not help you much...

I tried some companies, but almost all ask me for a visa and I don't have one. As I'm a Brazilian, I can stay only for three months in a european country with a tourist visa.

Sorry.
Yeah, it indeed sucks: To get a visa you need work, and to get work, you need a visa...

If you don't have a visa, you can't work in Europe at all, from home or not.
If you are caught, the fines for the company are large, you will be deported, and banned from re-entering for a number of years.
This is why companies want a visa: if you haven't got one, they are in big trouble if they employ you in any capacity.

Because of that, I thought that working from home for some company will be the best. I can travel to Germany stay for three months and after travel to some other country out of the schengen agreement and stay for more three months and get back to germany again and stay for more three months and so on.
Home-office here in Brazil is not very commom like are in others countries.

No...if you have a tourist visa, you can't work. Period.
And immigration are used to the swap-countries-and-come-back idea: they will probably spot you and get rather unpleasant about the whole idea...

Are you 100% sure about that? Like, is the German law that restrictive?
He is actually travelling on vacation to stay with her and doing work for a company when necessary that is not from that place.
Otherwise people who travel abroad shouldn't even answer the phone. And I've been to other countries that was not an issue.
Just saying, each country may have different views of what is a work visa for..

Fair enough,
But the idea still applies. You can replace Germany with EU in my last post.

Um...
Germans love rules:
It is an offence punishable with a fine and points on your licence to run out of petrol on a motorway.A "quiet time" is observed between noon and 3pm when it is forbidden to mow the lawn.It is illegal to wash your car at home - you must use a car wash.It is forbidden to hang washing out on Sunday. It is illegal to wear a mask while on strike. You can be fined 20 euros for calling someone an "arse" but 5,000 euros for calling an official a "little Hitler".So I think you can assume they are as hard - or harder - on illegal workers!
