I have to wonder...he spent years working at the patents office. How hard can it be to get patents granted to yourself when you know the process inside-out? And then, y'know...working there.
Not to take anything away from his accomplishments, of course. He still remains at the top of a very short list of people I think were true gifts to the world.

You still need to prove that your invention is new and non-obvious. Knowing which hoops to jump through might speed things up, but no more than a decent patent lawyer would.
Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

Frank Einstein?

Ohhh... I see what you did there!

I misread "Einstein" as "Epstein" and spend good one minute trying to figure out the joke.

Meshuggah - The Abysmal Eye[^]
Meshuggah announced a new album recently and the first single was released last week
I must confess, I totally missed their previous album The Violent Sleep of Reason, so their last work, for me, was Koloss from 2012.
For those who don't know Meshuggah, they sound like pretty accessible death metal (as far as death metal can be accessible), but when you listen closely, you'll hear almost unmatched technical ingenuity.
They use off-beat time signatures and different time signatures for different instruments that come back together after x bars, but you probably won't hear it if you just listen to it, which is quite a feat.
The musicians are masters of their instruments and as an ex-drummer I know drummer Tomas Haake is highly regarded in the drummer community.
Personally, I like to describe them as the Tool of death metal.
Looking forward to the new album and until that time this single is sound of the week!

I generally don't like death metal (or whatever metal this is), but I make an exception for Meshuggah.
I saw a description of their "song" Bleed:
Bleed on vocals: difficult
On guitar: very difficult
On bass: extremely difficult
On drums: there's a reason the song is called bleed
Tomas Haake, your favorite drummer's favorite drummer.

Quote: Meshuggah announced a new album Good to know ... thanks I missed the announcement somehow
Amazing DM, as usual from Meshuggah, they are improving with each album ...
Some tracks from ObZen come near this one I think (which is good of course ),

My musical tastes are different.
To me what makes music wonderful is magical melodies and harmony (vocal or instrumental). Then I'm compelled to listen. Your sound of the week single has none of that for me -- and I'm not finding any enjoyment from it.
I've recently been listening to Count Basie and George Winston while working.
Best wishes --

The SOTW is very diverse, so maybe you'll like what I have next week (but I don't know what that will be yet)
So you're listening to classical piano and jazz/blues?
Maybe you'll like my SOTW of two weeks ago[^] which really has nothing to do with either, but has magical melodies and harmonies

He was something around 50! 55? 55! 60!
Well, it's friday, so I guess I might as well grab my coat early today...

That still gives you less than 17! years until new stars stop forming, and less than 20! years until everything falls into a black hole.

Yeah, well. Should never take anything for granted. I'm 55 now, and the other day, I realised that I am now older than my mother was when she died...

Looks like he has had his lot
