Well, we've had plague, and now locusts. What next?

I'm pretty sure that plague and locust are far worse than cicadas.

Plague (aka Black Death) was much worse than COVID-19. That doesn't mean that I can't compare Plague to COVID-19, and Locusts to Cicadas.

you can't compare locust to cicadas.
One can cause famine, the other doesn't.

You have to realize that these "locusts" ate before they came to visit.
Mainly they leave their nymph shells firmly attached all over the place.

I like how it says they are harmless and won't cause damage... a lot can change in 17 years!

I'd imagine it would more likely to expect humans to evolved, in one generation, and no longer breed such an abundance of idiots. (I'm not getting my hopes up)

Yes, but maybe in this particular 17 years, they have had a reason to start hating humans. Maybe they don't agree with all the plastic pollution in the oceans, maybe they didn't vote Trump, maybe they have spent too much time on social media and are angry for no obvious reason.... maybe this time, it's war!

I love cicadas! I find them very fascinating to look at.
Be careful if you pick one up, though. They don't bite, and they're not aggressive. But if you let one set on your hand for long enough, it might mistake you for one of the trees cicadas usually sit on. If that happens, the cicada sitting on your hand might get thirsty and try to jam its proboscis into your hand to drink your sap. It hurts!

Strictly speaking, no, but clearly you've figured it out!

Unless Rich is desperate to set one, I'll give it a go tomorrow.

I'll happily take the credit but would you be able to do tomorrow?
Things have gone a bit mad since I posted with one email (in or out) every minute and it looks like I'm going to be a bit rushed tomorrow!
Thanks.
