The dark side? Vader you thinking? Oh - I get it - "where the sun don't shine". Seems a little too kinky for me.

Oh.. we were not talking about it?
Allow me to start then...
And I say that with the nicest feeling, that in fact gave me a good chuckle...
I am reviewing again and again (and again) Master of Orion 2 technology tree for a table top pen and paper RPG home project... And I can see how they are very good at creating scientific and impressive sounding name that make absolutely no sense!
Like this latest one:
The discovery of "Neutrino Physics" lead the the following applications: "Neutron Blaster", "Neutron Scanner". Confused now.. is that Neutrino Physics? or Neutron Physics? As everyone knows, those are 2 very different beast!

Yes, but you need good knowledge of Neutrino Physics in order to construct the subspace waveguide manifold that makes a Neutron Blaster possible.

How about phase cloaks, the time warp faciliator and auto repair in combination? You can decloak, fire and cloak again in the same round. Then the opponents get another turn not being able to shoot at anything and next turn we do everything over again. The auto repair is for occasional reaction fire that hits you when you decloak. You are almost invincible.

Unfortunately I don't have the patience to play much with those..
Because it requires to have some battle at the highest possible level of tech and I generally crush them like insects by then!
But, the few times I did, I did quite enjoy it...
My favorite special thing are the stasis field (maybe phase cloak + stasis field). One can put one or 2 stasis field on a frigate!
Ideally when you are all but doomed with just a few planets left, quickly build a swarm of phase cloaked frigate with stasis field and slowly kill them all without them being able to do a damn thing

Yeah, but you need a flux capacitor and I haven't seen one of those round here in decades.

So, you are not a fan of the Achilles Targeting Unit? Or course you are screwed when your opponent is not Achilles...

As to your game, since I have been there and done that already[^], how about a somewhat wacky weapon?
It's a gravity weapon that does more damage the bigger the target is. Tiny fighters take only little damage from it, while huge dreadnaughts suffer severe damage to their structure. At the beginning huge ships would have been extremely hard to kill. Later in the game a small fleet of agile smaller ships could beat them, especially with such weapons. It's also quite hard to point huge guns at a small agile target. Bigger is not always better.

Yes, but it's an extra that you can install only once. It barely makes an impact compared to some kind of cannon of which you can install as many as you can squeeze in. To little to reverse the bigger is better philosophy. The game is built around that. Just look at the command points a little scout costs compared to a titan or death star.

The two ARE related: at a conference when Fermi was talking about the "Pauli's neutrons" someone asked if these are the same as Chadwick's neutrons and Fermi said "No, no, Pauli's neutrons are much smaller; they are just tiny neutrinos."
Anyone who has ever shoot a neutron blaster knows it is much heavier than the neutrino blaster. The second one you can even keep it in your pocket everywhere in the Galaxy where concealed weapons are allowed.
As for the neutrino scanner, this is not used anymore because the image is too faint.

I started this morning by accidentally reverting over an hour of work.
Took me 1.5 hours to get it back (And by "getting" I mean writing teh codez).
It's not my worst nightmare, but it ain't no dream either!

Decaf = decaffeinated coffee

Yes! It makes no sense that people drink decaf! The whole point of coffee is the caffeine!
