You're way ahead of the pack. Most are in idiot mode as the default and only rarely and momentarily switch to "me" mode. As a working example, just listen to [oops, this will be soapbox material if I finish this sentence]

You're more aware than anyone else of what it is you may have posted and what frame of mind you might have been in when said posts were made.
I can't say I read every message in every thread, so I don't recall anything that would make me associate your name with anything particularly idiotic. But the fact that you've been made aware of..."this"...is probably all you need to remain conscious about what you're gonna post and think twice about hitting the Send button...if you had to ask, it's probably because you want to do something about it. That's more than can be said about a lot of people.

dandy72 wrote: is probably all you need to remain conscious about what you're gonna post and think twice about hitting the Send button... Therein lies the rub; I'm not that quite conscious, nor do I notice a shift. It's also not limited to posting in the forum, it is something that happens offline also. No idea how often, guessing once a month.

Well, as I wrote, now that you're aware of it, you'll probably be more careful about what you say/post, even if entirely subconsciously. Some people have no awareness whatsoever.

Eddy Vluggen wrote: That there's these moments where I switch from me to "idiot". And that it happens in seconds. Given my recent behaviour I can't dismiss that, but been told I always was like that. (With "always" being >15 years, more than CP membership).
Is that true? I wouldn't say "idiot", but I did have to tell you a couple of times that you were crossing the limits in your posts.
One can defend an opinion or a position in a hard way without insulting or being disrespectful.

CodeProject has helped me forward, and I don't want to damage it. If people can't separate your "harshness" from the general trend of the site, it is not entirelly your fault.
On the other side, you counting to 10 before some of your answers could be a improvement.
Eddy Vluggen wrote: I don't think I'm "crazy". I feel the same as I always did. I like to think I react on CP as I always did. There's a question, and you give a rational answer, with some arguments to back that up. As far as I can remember you have always been more in the group of "polemic users", involved in some big discussions.
I would say that "partially yes", I think you have become a bit harder in your rethoric. But I can't tell that there have been a concrete inflection point or what the reasons might have been, in other words I can't say "when" or "why" it got "worst".
I am not an empathic person (by far) and only reading words the biggest part of the communication (the non-verbal part) is missing, so the same message can be taken very, very differently by a person or another.

Eddy Vluggen wrote: How much damage have I done? Difficult to say, because that is a very objective impression by the "damaged" people.
But one thing is still clear for me. You are a user and you don't represent the community. If someone fail to see that, is not your problem.
If you had crossed the line that bad or you had severely damaged the community, CP Staff would have taken meassures and you would not be here.
That said, I still think you should try to keep yourself "logical", avoiding getting so personal and follow the "standard netiquette" without insulting or fighting back that hard.

One can defend an opinion or a position in a hard way without insulting or being disrespectful. True; haven't found a "confused" post, but quite some aggressive ones.
Nelek wrote: If people can't separate your "harshness" from the general trend of the site, it is not entirelly your fault. Not relevant; it will still be seen as "part of the site" and "I don't go there anymore".
Nelek wrote: On the other side, you counting to 10 before some of your answers could be a improvement. In those moods, counting is not on my mind, unless it is in corpses.
Nelek wrote: I would say that "partially yes", I think you have become a bit harder in your rethoric. Good enough, got the same reaction for offline.
Nelek wrote: I don't think so, but it still is your perception so it won't be that bad for you. Perception is the worst; after loosing too much sleep, you first start hearing things, then you start seeing things on your walls. So no, not trusting that and verifying.
Nelek wrote: But one thing is still clear for me. You are a user and you don't represent the community. If someone fail to see that, is not your problem. Not just mine, but a problem for CodeProject also. The site helped me once or twice to get a job. Nelek wrote: If you had crossed the line that bad or you had severely damaged the community, CP Staff would have taken meassures and you would not be here. Shoulnd't come that far. That's like being a guest and being thrown out.
Nelek wrote: That said, I still think you should try to keep yourself "logical", avoiding getting so personal and follow the "standard netiquette" without insulting or fighting back that hard. Good advice, but at those moments I don't have enough control to do so. The site hasn't changed, so logic dictates I changed. And I must change it back.

Was expensive, but got it as a gift.
Played it, and "free" is too expensive. I've played Shareware that's more inviting, demo's that go further.
An expensive DLC for Dutch rulers? Without additional mechanics?
No. Long time Civ fan ignoring Civ6.

That's too bad - I remember some of the older Civs as being some of the more fun out there. Ah well, I guess an end comes to every good civilization.
At least you saved me a download after work. Thank you!

The older Civs didn't require you to download a DLC with your country. Compare the amount of countries in Civ1/2 against the new one.

But you are right... I meant like in Destiny 2. The game is free the DLC and Season Passes not.

Is life without the universal control like having rabbit ears without younguns?

I'm certainly old enough to remember rabbit ears, and old enough to also remember the family's first VCR came with a wired remote control.

Our first remote was an RCA 4 button ultrasonic type. I never remember having any issues with it, built like a tank if I recall.

Also bought my first unit - an RCA - back when the remote was wired. It was a demo model so I could afford it.
The remote was only for the physical control, like stop/start/record. Do you remember the channel knob? All of those click-stops on a single nob. Three speeds to choose from, as well. SP, LP, and SLP.
One of those things where the price of it and all relevant components (like tape) kept going down. Video tape from $15 to may a buck or so.
VHS ! No wussies BetaMax in the family.

I have a very distinct memory of a friend chastising me for buying VHS tapes, 'they're going dodo' he said, 'betamax is THE thing....blah blah blah'.
