I'm calling it "Data Britches".

I saw that too. Sad news.
Too bad James Bond is dead, he would have been sad.

but Connery is still alive, but it's been a while since he's been out in public AFAIK.

I don't know if you heard/read, but the character "James Bond" is on ice, indefinitely, in lieu of a new female character.
With that said, I rather disliked Roger Moore as James Bond.
Craig, Connery, the rest were garbage, IMHO.

We cannot discuss his politics here in the Lounge, which is just as well because I don't know the man that well, but I suppose now that he is in intensive care, it is in order to wish him well and a speedy recovery.

Whether we agree with his policies and politics or not, he is a fellow human being, going through something terrible. I wish him a speedy recovery.

I can't decide whether to reply "Careful, or you'll be branded as a snowflake" (more expositional) or just "Snowflake" (more satirical), so I won't bother replying at all (more surreal).

My empathy for a fellow human being means I am a beautiful snowflake; minus the beautiful bit.

Having empathy and sometimes compassion for another human being most certainly does not make you a snowflake; quite the opposite, if you ask me.

It's being a snowflake to show empathy? I understood it to be a "woke" person who's easily triggered by viewpoints that conflict with their own, even to the point of wanting to silence dissent or be given a "safe space" where they can hide from it.

No idea. Out of total lack of interest, I've never read the dictionary of hateful and spiteful terms, but it seems also to be used when people show compassion, rather than aggression.

While I would not wish CO-VD 19 on anyone, he is a politician so limited sympathy is applied. Wasn't he the one who was boasting about shaking hands with all and sundry recently?

There was a time at the start of pandemic, where some believed society should just ride out the virus till herd immunity killed it. Maybe Boris was in that camp when he shook hands with patients in the hospital?
In any case, I don't believe we should under current circumstances be holding that argument against him. The man is clearly very sick and IMHO only sympathy is now appropriate.

The concept of letting people who might die of it die, because whoever's left will be immune, makes eminently good sense as far as evolution is concerned -- but it's an "other logic" that people tend not to prefer when it turns out that they and theirs might be the ones who have to die for it to work.
I find the fact that high-ranking members of a government can be so callous and inhumane in their ideas for society to be extremely disturbing, and this will certainly affect how I vote, in future.
