If it were possible to injure myself writing code I'd have sprained something by now
It is possible to injure yourself writing code.
I've spent decades sitting in a chair and hardly moving all day. This has resulted in weight gain and, in turn, a bad back.
I can't imagine I'd be in this shape (round's a shape, right?) if I instead had been a lumberjack (leaping from tree to tree, as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia, etc etc).

Research into standing desks is suggesting they're far from being as great as previously thought. I don't have any problem believing that.
That being said, it's obvious getting up and stretching after a while is a must, so I wouldn't mind having a standing desk...but the amount of stuff in my case that would have to follow to make it practical in either position makes it rather...unworkable (for one thing, I have too many cables that are just too short).

This year, I saw the first "Christmas" products before the end of September. And some "Christmas" food stuff with a "best before" date in October.
I think that there ought to be a law against labeling anything "Christmas"-this-and-that unless it is intended to last at least until Christmas Eve. Any food stuff intended to be consumed during the Advent season should be labeled "Advent"-so-and-so - but if the "best before" date is before Advent Sunday, it should be against the law to use that term, too.
The American Thanksgiving celebration helps keeping the Christmas madness down until the end of November. Here in Norway, we have no Thanksgiving tradition; that could be a partial explanation why we go crazy from the end of September. It is a quite modern phenomenon - twenty years ago, traditionalists where crying out when Christmas beer a Christmas marzipan appeared the last days of October. Now, it seems like we have given up all resistance.

Here we have "Sinterklaas", which is celebrated today btw, but this celebration is spoilt by shops already selling Christmas goods long before the 5th of december. Also in recent years there have been heated discussions about his helper "Black Pete" being too black. What a way to ruin the fun for the children who still believe in this fictional character

I thought Dec. 6th was the great day when you exchange gifts etc. - the St. Nicolas day. Do you celebrate both 5th and 6th, or do you get your gifts on the 5th?
I think it is completely wrong to picture Jesus and his family as anything but fair-skinned and blond, with blue eyes. They were nothing like Semite people of today, like Palestinians. No, they were just like us Caucasians. He is our saviour, he looked like us. And the Holy Virgin was at least 18 years before she met this Gabe fellow out in the fields; she was nothing like her girlfriends who were typically twelve or thirteen when they married. Just look at all the paintings of her with the baby boy on her lap: Does she look like a thirteen year old? No! The pictures prove that she was just like us, and more like twenty years old, maybe even more. There is no reason to believe that Saint Nicholas looked anything different from modern, bearded Western men. Just ask Coca Cola Compay - they know.

Why all these members are still here
[Edit]
to be fair, "trolling" is mentioned in front of the brace
[Edit]
How I came to this post?
I was asking me, can I start a discussion here (because there is no SB anymore) about "vegan cars"? *)
Now the rules:
The Lounge is rated Safe For Work.
*) Is safe for work...?
If you're about to post something inappropriate for a shared office environment, then don't post it.
*) Depends who share the office
No ads,
*) It is not an ad
no abuse,
*) is it or is it not? I think not.
and no programming questions.
*) definitelly not a programming question I think. Ok one can maybe turn it to
Trolling, (political, climate, religious or whatever) will result in your account being removed.
*) Whatever fits, but trolling?
Can somebody answer this?
[Edit]
"Trolling, (political, ...." should be more "Trolling (political, ....." ?
It does not solve my Problem, but it answers my question

It's bound to offend somebody - the idea of "vegan" is offensive to all right thinking BACON worshippers, the idea of "car" is a mantra to some, an anathema to others. The combination is ... um ... unlikely, given the amount of dinosaur byproducts that go into even an electric car (plastics, oils, greases, fabrics, ... all can be oil based). Or do vegans not care about long-dead animals? I dunno ...
I'd assume it irony, not trolling myself, but I'm sure that will offend some!

Did you just offend yourself?

Would that be OriginalOffending, or meta-offending?

There's the 'should' as in people 'should' be able to have conversations on any topic without descending into a fight.
Then there's the reality which is where, generalising, within a big enough population you will always find someone who wants to turn what could be a decent conversation into a fight.
Codeproject has a big enough population for that to happen.
So you kind of just have to suck it up and avoid those areas that will descend into a fight.
That's my take on it
