Elon Musk, Andrew Yang (yes, I'd put him in the "techie" category).

That isn't support. Nor is a billionaires opinion on money really relevant to this discussion.

Find any actual techies (real people doing real tech jobs) that support UBI.

I studied hard at school, got good grades, went to university and studied hard for years, got various jobs to build my experience. And you want me to just give people money for doing nothing?
Um.....no?

I don't think it's related to social group at all...
More like people interested in science. Could be anyone.
(and you'd be surprised to know that many economist like the idea!)
there is no doubt could be good for the overall economy and everyone. The question would be.. what is the right amount?
Could be anything from 0 to a lot.. And certainly depends on local factor such as how automated is your economy and how many natural resources you have..
But, well... social and political experimentation is notoriously hard to do...
Look at all this people saying straight out forcefully no, not even stopping to consider whether it might benefit them indirectly or not (as in, a stronger consumer economy, benefits everyone, for example)

We already have UBI in place. The amount is currently set at 0 but that may change... ...eventually.
Wow! Did you see that flock of pigs flying by?

Does this not describe open source, rather than shareware?

Yes, this would include open source, which is basically a form of shareware.

I think the definition of "shareware" has changed enough over time that most people have come to think of it as something that still includes a monetary incentive and has very little to do with sharing any source...whereas open source is just that, making the source available to all.

Anything with the word "Basic" in it must be a bad idea.

So shall I presume that programmers would be OK with it if it were called Universal C++ Income?

When it comes to C++, very little is "universal".

So if "basic" appears 23 times, there's a chance of a good idea?

I post a message in the Insider News and I then see the following message dates:
1 hr 4mins ago
2 hrs 4mins ago
2min ago
6-Oct-17 12:02
6-Oct-17 15:08
So October 7, 2017 through October 24, 3:52 PM EST...as Mike might say, getting old is not what he expected.

Still looks odd for me. The first page has five threads from the last 24 hours, followed by three threads from September, two from July, one from June, and one from April.
I know there are a few forums here where that wouldn't be unusual. But the Insider News is much busier than that!
I suspect someone may have forgotten or messed up a WHERE clause on a DELETE statement.
