So I am going to Wacken this year, as well as Brutal Assault and Sabaton Open Air. Anyone else been?

Been to Wacken some 10 years ago.
I think it was Immortal's comeback and they were headliner.
Sleeping in a tent, not sleeping all that much anyway, bad food, having constant noise and people around me, for three days straight... Once, but never again
Friends sometimes ask me if I like to join them to Graspop or Lowlands, but no thanks I'm good

I've done a lot of festivals, but with cheap hotel rooms. This will be interesting

If it is longer than a 2 hour concert, then I want nothing to do with it.

Four days and more than 150 bands.
Not to many of them are any good even if you like the music style. (As it is for every music festival)

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?
Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you
Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.

There's enough good to keep you busy. Every festival has many stages, it would be insane if they all had large, expensive bands that everyone wants to see. And finding a new band is a joy of a festival

There are ten that I'd love to see, but not enough to stand a festival.

I'm excited for more than 10. More like 20.

I've realized something about multi-day music festivals... usually the only bands you're interested in play either last or second to last on any given day. The exception to this are good up and coming bands who get stuck playing right away in the morning. Leaving and returning later on is a headache when you realize that they are usually held an hour+ from anything else.
It's almost like they plan it that way so you have to spend extra money on their overpriced food and beverages.

I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that it is a combination of factors beyond their control. Things like available locations and not sufficiently taking their customer's needs into account as opposed to being an outright cash grab.
In case you were wondering... no, I couldn't type that with a straight face.

See, as a strong fan of metal, I love a lot of the more obscure bands they have during the day

Don't get me wrong, I love obscure bands and ones who haven't broken through quite yet but I still want to make sure I'm not wasting my money and more importantly time.
Normal process is to check the lineup for bands I have never heard of, go research them see if they have any songs which I like and how their other live shows look. If their small venue shows are awesome but not larger ones, I aim to see them in a smaller venue. Let them be their best sort of thing. Plus for complete unknowns, small shows usually cost less, aren't a multiday affair, and so on.
The worst I've run into are bands whose songs I love but are as lively as a slime mold on stage! Sort of sucks the magic out of the entire thing. This isn't speaking to Wacken in specific, more of music festivals I've attended in general. Been burned too many times to leave it to chance.

Yeah, I do the same. I am listening to new bands from a Wacken announce today. Found some good ones.
The other thing of course is that for me, from Australia, the obscure German bands are the bigger news b/c they will never tour here.

That is true, I know whenever Avatar is here it is a big deal. Yeah they aren't German but still.

Stoked for Avatar. I missed them at Rock on the Range because I booked a flight to the wrong city!!!

You're in for a great time, seen them a couple times and they never fail to put on an awesome show.
