This is deeper than it might seem. And it's still too early in the morning for me to take that statement apart.

Daughter gave us restaurant gift coupon via Amazon, for our anniversary (58).
Email gave us URL to get it, since it was not an Amazon coupon. First says "unsafe", then 404. Tried with Firefox and Chromium. Fails with both. Called Amazon, they sent another. Same thing. Fired up a W10 virtual machine and tried with Edge. Shazam, I have my coupon.
If you can keep your head while those about you are losing theirs, perhaps you don't understand the situation.

that piece of software is pathetic. The next microsoft browser version should be better, since I do not think it can get worse.

Well, they're redesigning edge to use the chromium engine. In other news, some muckety-muck at Microslop said mozilla should cease development on firefox because (paraphrasing) "having one browser is better than having multiple browsers".
Yeah. Right...

Change the browser agent to indicate Internet Explorer/Windows in either chrome or firefox, and I bet it works.

What in gods green earth would require Slack to consume 1/2 Gig of RAM? It's a f***ing messaging app!!! Or Postman, which is really nothing but an awful front-end UI for sending REST API calls and receiving responses?
Between the two of them, 1GB. Two Visual Studio instances, another 1.5GB. SQL Server + SSMS, 700MB.
And don't even get me started on Chrome. 17 tabs and almost 5GB. Close Chrome, restart with exactly the same 17 tabs, and now it uses a meager 2GB.
WTF? On a 16GB machine, I had 90% memory utilization (there are other things too, stuff consuming 200MB, etc). F***ing insane.

Interesting. I knew it was basically a custom browser, but jeez, I had no idea how bad.

I recall reading an article roughly 10 years ago where the guru from some tech company (Microsoft, Apple, Google, Adobe, Oracle... - I don't remember) made the argument that being ultra efficient with RAM use was foolish - after all having a bunch of unused RAM isn't helping anything. His advice was use as much as you want and let the OS manage it.
Today we see the result of said advice...

It really does seem that way. All I can think is these apps load everything into memory as a distinct object and then never let it go. It's just crazy -- no lazy loading, no setting things to null after done with use. Just wanton memory eating with no thought.

That's unfortunate naming, for once. Loading everything at once IS the lazy way of achieving it.

If you plan to run multiple OSes, you're advised to pack a lot of RAM, whichever your host OS is. Because the guest OS (Chrome) will not be appeased by single digits gigs of RAM.

if you open Task Manager, and watch Postman's memory usage, you can actually see it adding about 0.1 MB/sec, just sitting there, doing nothing.
