With automation disrupting centuries-old industries, the professional must reshape and expand their service to add value. Failure is a mindset. It is those who empower themselves with technology who will thrive.
Merger is a new film about the future of work, from cult director/designer Keiichi Matsuda (HYPER-REALITY). Set against the backdrop of AI-run corporations, a tele-operator finds herself caught between virtual and physical reality, human and machine. As she fights for her economic survival, she finds herself immersed in the cult of productivity, in search of the ultimate interface. This short film documents her last 4 minutes on earth.

If you liked Existenz you might enjoy a Polish/Japanese film called Avalon.
If you do watch it be sure to watch the undubbed version in Polish with English subtitles - films dubbed into English tend to lose a lot in the dubbing.

Found it, there are quite a lot of movies named 'Avalon', but it must be this one: Avalon (2001) - IMDb[^]

I hate when a trailer gives away the ending!

I don't really get it - is it supposed to be like the movie Source Code?

Johnny: Dog ate my phone.
Teacher: OK, well PC law says we can't judge you for that
........ but seeing as the dog is fed, where's your homework?

Is there a market among people who find velcro too difficult to deal with?

Good question. I'm wondering if there will come a day where you can't even dress yourself without a smartphone. I wonder if Nike is going to make this a service and charge customers a monthly fee to lace their shoes.

I guess it could be useful for those who can't see the laces to tie or velcro to attach. Of course, getting ones shoes on would also be a challenge for them.

Even completely blind people learn to tie shoelaces. I am not blind, but being the father of a visually handicapped girl, I met quite a few kids who where. They tie shoes without more problems than other kids. Maybe it takes a little longer for them to learn, but even seeing kids need lots of practice to learn it porperly.
When I tie my shoes, I don't look at the laces I never need to look at them. I have had quite a few years to practice it, though.

It was not clear from my post but I was actually thinking of people who are so heavy they can't see their own feet.

I certainly do, too old and fat to get at shoe laces so I wear slip on shoes. I do doubt I am the target market for exercise apparel though

In a follow up news story (not yet published!) the FBI is requesting that Nike includes a back door in their sneaker controller so that agents can untie the laces of criminals running away.

On a more serious note, it wouldn't surprise me that the NSA finds it's way into this by having NIKE place a gps tracker in them.

So now we have wireless headphones that have wires and self-lacing shoes that don't have laces. Marketers are outdoing themselves in redefining language to nonsense!
