I used to keep gerbils.
What's great about gerbils is that that don't smell at all and they tend to be fairly active.
With a little patience it's also possible to train them to run up your arm and sit on your shoulder.
I wouldn't discount gerbils as a good pet.

Except for the "oh gawd it's died again - quick, to the pet shop before she notices!" bit.

Yes, they do have fairly short lives of around 2 years

Maybe you should get her a Steiff rabbit.

Quote: All pets need attention and cleaning in one way or another. My pet rock is great - it never poops, doesn't bite or growl at visitors, has no special food requirements (actually no requirements at all) and just likes to sit on a sunny windowsill. I can talk to it and it listens like it understands me. It already knows some tricks like "sit" and "stay" but hasn't got the hang of "roll over" without help yet. If it ever does I'll know there is an earthquake coming!

I second the vote for pet rock!
Common sense is admitting there is cause and effect and that you can exert some control over what you understand.

My son has a rabbit and got it from Petland :: Petland Pets Make Life Better![^]
They seem to be a national company but not sure if there is one in your area.
We have a couple of them locally and they are actually very good with the animals and provide very good animals that are well taken care of.

BTW, his rabbit is very well behaved. I've never experienced a tame rabbit like that. It is a female and he had it "fixed" which also increases the rabbit's life-span greatly.
His girlfriend has two guinea pigs (also from petland) and they are very well behaved and happy and very tame.
That all said. My son was bit one time by his rabbit. He was using a shedding glove on the rabbit and it thought it was a monster so it bit. After that nothing else ever.
His girlfriend was bit by the one guinea pig one time but that's because she was trimming it's nails and it was young. After that, all good behavior.
Good luck.

Be careful! Get a bit of a background history on the rabbit lest you find out it's got a poor disposition.[^]

Has the rabbit got that much stuff that needs moved with them?
I'd get 3 bids from reputable moving companies first then negotiate!

Yeah, Metro UI sucks donkey spheres.
The whole "Settings" app is clumsier, harder to use, and less friendly than "Control Panel" was - and it misses out many features.
It probably works on a phone. Sort of. If you were one of the ten people worldwide who bought a Windows Phone, that is.

Those are two very good points.
But then :
1. who buys it? I got it free... didn't we all?
2. I'm older than Office.

raddevus wrote: 2. I'm older than Office. So, you read the discussions on the new buttons that Office 95 introduced, the discussion on the new UI of Office 97, the discussion on how great the new menu-bar is for productivity.
The "consistency" thing that was so touted to save money has long been abandoned by marketing.

Software piracy is a different animal.
Most of the "I got mine free" is due to the package being pre-installed when the machine is purchased. Many companies order their Win 10 machines with Office pre-installed by the vendor at the request of the purchaser.

Without piracy, MS would not have been a success.
