From this story Southwest Airlines employee mocks five-year-old girl called 'Abcde', says mother[^]
According to the Social Security Administration database, 328 children were named Abcde between 1990 and 2013 in the US
While it is unfortunate that the child had epilepsy - completely irrelevant to the story - if you don't want your child to be ridiculed don't give them a ridiculous name. Do these people not know how cruel and mean children (and adults) are, have they not heard A Boy Named Sue[^] (may be a good thing).

I couldn't agree more.
I knew an actual boy named Sue many years ago. I was rather young at the time so I didn't know to ask if his parents were Johnny Cash fans.

Is there any girl that is actually named Sue? Aren't they all actually named e.g. Susan or Suzanne, and Sue is their nickname?
And what would you say if a boy named Sue gives you a smile when he tells you "My full name is Superior"

Also people using antiquated names that went out of style decades ago. I knew a girl named Gertrude in high school (mid-2000s). Felt bad for her. Kids are ruthless; the less ammo you give other kids the better for your kid.

My daughter, who is now in her 40s, was named Nova which was not a common name in those days, she bitched at me all through her teenage years using that as an excuse (she would have bitched at me anyway - teenager).

And now she has a radio station named after her. If she's the one in Greystaynes that is as it's a Sydney radio station.

And when one of the car companies brought out a "Nova" model it did not make my life easier, little trollop still gives me a hard time. Karma is that her kids do the same

"Antiquiated" names have been great fashion here in Norway for the last ten or twenty years. Kids are named after their great (great) grandparents, names that haven't been used for sixty to ninety years.
And, Gertrude is far from being an antiquated name in some European cultures.

Actually,
My best friend growing up had a single letter as his first name: T
I'm not sure how common this is... he was the only person I ever met with a single letter name.

TBH, I don't think that a company called ABC should have any say in such matters.
Vested interests, and all that.

The rate at which people are making up names these days it won't be long until kids start getting bullied for having the same name as another kid.

Dick and C**k are (or rather, used to be) perfectly valid first names in the Netherlands...
We even had a famous television show with an investigator who used to say "the C**k, with C O C K." (his last name when introducing himself, Kok would be a common alternative spelling).
Until we all learned some English that is
That said, my name is a tool for smoothing out rough surfaces in English
People rarely make that association though
