indoor cats: bad for the cat, good for the environment.

I feel (smell?) your pain
We used to have a dog who wanted nothing more than to make friends with a local skunk. Sadly her overtures of friendship were unrequited. She must have been sprayed a dozen times over the course of her life...never did learn.

The cat is probably hiding until the stripe of paint wears off.

We had a mama skunk and her litter in a den under our garage last year. One of the kits wandered into our yard, and my two greyhounds brought it in and dropped it onto the wife's heirloom rug. I scooped it up into a dust pan and tossed it outside toward the den.
The fun part was taking the 7'x9' rug outside, spraying it with water, shampooing it, rinsing it several times, and then lifting it over the fence to dry over the next several days. The rug probably weighs close to 75 pounds dry. Getting it thoroughly wet converts it to woven neutronium. Heaving it up and over the fence was... difficult.

Presumably your municipality has some sort of pest control services. While it was still trapped, you should've called them to pick it up and take care of it.
If you just freed it, don't be surprised if it comes back.
This last week we woke up to a squished skunk right in front of our mailbox. The less of them I know are around, the better it is IMO.

I wish you the best of luck with your cat returning. I have had mixed luck with this in the past, so I know some of what you must be going through now.
If it helps, my one cat came back after 5 days, long after we thought the worse. So, just hope for the best.
Edit: Ah, just read that you have had sightings, well, been through that too. Our one male cat took two whole weeks before he would come back in, but he eventually did. He would hide under part of our house and spent most of his time just exploring.
Just so you all know, cats were never meant to be indoors only. You really are doing a disservice to your feline by keeping them indoors for their entire life. They need to be able to come and go as they please. My opinion, but shared by many cat owners. I have 4 cats, and 2 dogs.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other.
The numbers say "indoor == better", because they live significantly longer than cats which are allowed out, and are generally healthier (less feline AIDS, less injuries)
But ... in QoL terms I don't believe it's so clear cut. they are naturally curious and predatory animals, and their "work/life balance" is better IMHO if they are allowed out to explore, mark territory, and hunt. Ours is allowed out on timeshare: he gets the mornings, next door gets the afternoons. This means they share territory but don't meet, since that ends up at the vets - they hate each other with a passion!

I hear you and I get your motivation for your comments. I do.
However, I believe that animals should not be caged, especially pets. So, we have a double insulated flap pet door on the back door and the cats and dogs come and go as they please. We are lucky enough to have a very big backyard for the dogs.
I think many humans excerpt themselves and their beliefs over their pets, mostly at the pet's expense.
In summary, just because someone likes the idea of owning a pet, doesn't always mean they should have one. Again, my opinion.

Oh gawd. Another one ...
Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present BRITA Infinity[^] - the WiFi water jug?
Yes, that's right, all you have to do is give it full access to your network, hand it your Amazon login and purchase details, and it will order water filters whenever it feels like it! What could possibly go wrong?

Right
And since you bought filters we thought you might be interested in fur lined electric socks so we've included a pair in this delivery.

I have one that is useful, and can think of one other.
You can tell your Sky recorder to record a program from your phone via an app, which could be useful - if there was enough worth watching to actually record something...
I have a WiFi Sous Vide, so in theory I could set it going on my way home, and have food ready when I walked in. Which is good, and useful. But ... the software is a pile of sheep poo. Basically for me it only works if I am in the same room, as soon as the phone sleeps - which it does often - the WiFi link breaks and you have to reestablish it via Bluetooth to get it working again. Which means pressing a button on the actual unit, negating the whole sodding idea.
They are apparently working on this. But then, they have been for months so I'm not expecting results at all soon ...

They missed out the most important part of the whole process - disposing of the old filter and replacing it with the new.
Adding one more item to my supermarket shopping list isn't exactly difficult; remembering to replace the filter at the right time, OTOH...

I had an image with text on, and I thought "that's a nice font - I wonder what it is?"
So I googled for "identify font from image" and this came up: Identify Fonts - The Font Squirrel Matcherator[^] - you drop an image on it, it finds the text, and it says "could be one of these..." complete with download links.
And right at the top was what I was looking for. Impressive work, chaps - your site is now on my uBlock whitelist.

There was another called "What The Font", but it got renamed/taken over. I think Google could still find it. Very useful for identifying venue slogan/logo fonts for ticket printing.
