All correct.
Any suggestions on what might have been better for "uniform" instead of "outfit"?

Possibly "all the same".

Ah, non-linear narration (as in movies).

Are you suggesting that is wasn't clear which part to remove the "UN" from?
I can see why you might think it that way, but I wasn't actually suggesting to remove "UN" from "UNIFORM" directly, more a case that it should be removed from the result of the first part of the clue. I.e. remove "UN" from "VIPERUNIFORM"

No. I wasn't roping in "based around" part. I was ignoring that. This made the clue non-linear for me. I got VIP and ER, then I had to go back to outfit to get uniform and then move forward again to remove UN.
Still makes more sense than what I can come up with:
Echidna sounds like clean alteration.

Outfit = Uniform (as in clothes that are worn)
To be fair, that was the bit of the clue I was most unsure about. A Uniform can definitely be described as an outfit, but it probably isn't the most obvious thing to come to mind.
I suppose it doesn't help that both outfit and uniform have multiple meanings, not just relating to wearing clothes.

Now that would have been a good one to use! Unfortunately I have only just learned that word. Why didn't you teach me it 6 hours ago?!

My great granddad always used to say: "Don't belief anything you read".
But he was a bit of a dinosaur, so I would always take what he said "with a punch of salt".
On a side note, I am not sure even I know what I am going on about anymore...

A very small nitpick for me, is, I associate an emergency hospital department with A&E ( accident and emergency ) but apart from that can't see much wrong

I think ER is well enough known across the English speaking world these days. Even as an Englishman who has worked in hospitals, ER came to mind first.

Next you will be telling us that the world is a sphere. Or shaped like a donut. Perhaps more like the Klein Bottle[^]? With only one surface it's a real alternative for a flat Earth!

SERPENTINE?
It fits the "Snake-like", and contains "ER", but the "shaped celebrity outfit"? No idea. The "but let's leave the peacekeepers out of this" could mean remove the "UN" or similar, but what we are supposed to remove it from, I dunno...

Nope.
The answer is not a word I had heard before last week, so might not be very common.
And I suggest you find something to remove it from
