I still don't know why someone thinks that I might be interested in clicking on ads showing a Millenial Mutant (TM) and a potted plant. Hard to say which one of the two looks more intelligent. Anyway, since last week I get this ad on CP on every page at every refresh. On some pages the mutant and his plant even look at me twice.
For the first time I now got a different ad for a 6 channel 8 GHz oscilloscope. Now we are talking. I could even afford it if I really wanted to, even if the price tag is 25 times that of the more modest oscilloscope I have. Except hopeless nostalgia there are some more rational reasons why I play with such old processors. Anyway, that's really a sexy device.
If I really may wish for a new toy, how about a logic analyzer[^]? I will not need any high frequencies, but enough channels and useful functions would be nice. Any tips where to look?

Keysight seem to have come from nowhere, I'm guessing the brand was owned by someone who let it fall and then brought it back or sold it on. I have never used more than three channels at the same time, but six I could get behind (monitoring clock signals & inputs simultaneously...). I find if I need an instrument got home use I have found Uni-T to be quite good (Farnells Tenma brand is Uni-T with a badge change!) There stuff is not too expensive and seems to quite accurate have a look at Bangood.com

Measuring the data bus may require some more channels. Data lines, address lines, address extensions, /MRD and /MWR. Or when you have several busmasters at work, like when you are debugging DMA.

If I needed a scope and it wasn't silly money it would a yes from me (bought a Uni-T model a couple of years ago, two channel does the job!) Whats your view on Pico-scopes, never really worked for me...

They are the preferred thing to have on your desk. It's a USB box with Terminals attached and you run a funny bit of software...Don't really work for me!

Ahh, those!
You still need a notebook or a tablet to plug into. I also already saw some that plugged into phones, but somehow I got the impression that these are better toys, no more. My notebook already has several jobs. That does not really work for me already. I have never used one of them, so I can't say much about the quality.

I bought an oscilloscope last year - always wanted one. After plugging myself into it and discovering I was a very good antenna for the wires in the wall I sort of ran out of ideas so it is collecting dust in my garage now.
Still I own one. You can't be a proper nerd and not.

you mean after seeing all that EMF in your home you didn't go out and buy as much tinfoil as you can carry?
so brave!
it's a wonder the conspiracy nutters haven't gone on about the government et. al. using that data against us? ...
"we recorded you masterba reading anti govt propaganda 138 times during August, don't ask us how, but we have the evidence."
Be warned! unplug the fridge, turn the TV around, blindfold the cat (roaming camera)...
(Actually I just got one of those emails: someone in Saudi Arabia recorded me on my webcam (I guess it must be the one in a box in the storeroom) watching pron, I'm supposed to send him some money in 24 hours otherwise he will tell you all. Now the nervous wait begins.

If you have any females in your house, they will roast you like a turkey in a microwave oven with their cell phones. A few meters will be the least of your problems.

Not too worry! smart meters from the ones I have worked on a basically mobile phone modems that only send data when they have a wake up signal. The really interesting thing is if you are poor s*d driving around in the van!

Try these... Logic Analyzers from Saleae
USB devices with software.
The software has built in decoders for things like serial lines and SPI etc.
