OK. That's weird. When I read that, I immediately thought "Rock the Casbah".

Royal day here in the Netherlands, everyone (?) has a day off, hoera, hoera
|
|
|
|

May 1st is off in many lands and that's on a Tuesday.
How many taking Monday off too?
I already let 1 mob know that wanted me over I was unavailable on Monday.

I know I am taking Monday off.
I am not the one who knocks. I never knock.
In fact, I hate knocking.

Not in the Netherlands, boohoohoo, sniff
We have a saying "Op 1 mei is iedereen vrij, behalve wij" ...

Your Dutch is excellent, but you are probably not from Dutch origin I guess ?

Yes I'm a Dutch native. My user name is from the tv series Alias Smith and Jones, but my actual name sounds as Dutch as yours

Thought of that after I posted my message, that was a nice TV series from quite a while ago. Westerns were on TV almost every day at that time if I remember well ...

Joepie!
This was my part time day though

And any progress with Betty, or is she still Blocking

Personally, I'm still not convinced it's a long term solution.
I'm hoping a day course (all the way in Alkmaar ) will give me a better idea of the shortcomings

Not today but Monday and Tuesday are holidays here which makes it 4 days off work!

With a few exception (Xmas, New Years, Independence Day), US Holidays are almost always convoluted to be celebrated with Monday's as the day off. A small consolation (very small) for the comparative lack of vacation time we have compare to EU-ish places.
My employer take it a step further on their own - giving us the latter half of the day off before all said holidays (including the three celebrated on their actual day).*
* If one of 'the three' comes out on Sat, the day off is officially Fri; if Sun, it moves to Mon., in case you were wondering.

Yes, I know that the US is one of the countries with the least days off, saw a bar graph on a site about that once. Did not know about the moving of days that are in the weekend though, that's something that is not happening here in the Netherlands.
Well, on my next day off I will be thinking of you poor US citizens

Well, we can both sit back and mull over option three for lots of time off:
Become French citizens and go on strike.

Mei, 1st is celebrated in every part of Europe, but not the Netherlands. We just celebrate we have an expensive king.

It's not called "Dag van de arbeid" (labour day) for nothing

Other nations celebrate workers' rights that day, not the fact that work exists.
