Yeah - you probably are the only one. Sadly, not really. I've received some of those 'documents'.
I fact, some of us even have dedicated High Resolution scanners.
Also, we own a "Camera" for taking pictures of things.
Old school - you know how it is - quality and all that stuff was/is important.

Really? A camera[^]? Is that practical?
I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them were cats.

Not only practical, but aesthetically pleasing in and of it's own right.
Actually, in real life, I even had a view-camera for a while, loading with sheet film.
And the quality was worth it. They're still around.
. . . skip many steps . . .
Now, my current favorite is a Kodak Z990 - last camera before the bankruptcy. 30x Schneider zoom - crystal clear throughout the range. Super Macro's my favorite when not stuck doing photos of family and such.

For those of us who never progressed to the SLR level a phone camera can give better resolution than a lot of cameras, especially if it is a few years old. I dumped my old cannon SLR when my phone did a better job.

And it faxes too! And the little screen tells me when a robo-call is coming in (I keep the ringer turned off).
Plus, I also scan negatives and slides.
So, yes, I scan. And my wife needs to fax medical documents.

I still scan some things - mostly Herselfs photo collection - and I also use it to copy documents (I like a copy of everything I'm supposed to sign so I can refer back to it later if needed).
It's also damn useful if you need a little OCR.
Frankly I'm surprised printers have survived this long - I use mine as a printer mostly for personalised birthday / other cards these days.

Oddly enough, I have some ink cartridges due to arrive, today - the one I've been refilling was out of use so long it's longing to see its ancestors.

A funny story: I have a flatbed scanner in my home office that mostly stays turned off. My wife has one of those 'all-in-ones' with a scanner in her office. When she needs to scan, she will bring whatever documents so that I can scan them and email them to her. Why not use her own...because the last time she tried to use it (years ago) it didn't work, and besides, that would mean having to move all the files/folders stacked on top of it. It's just easier if I do it for her!

Haha, sadly I understand the situation all too well. Having to scan means uncovering the all-in-one so that I can open it, then unplug all the cords from my laptop (which is difficult to replug back in because the power cord has to be positioned just right so that it charges), move it across the room and plug it in, wait for it to scan, reposition it if the page didn't scan correctly or moved. It's a 10 minute ordeal when I can get just as clear and well positioned document with my camera in half a minute.

I've only ever done that once in my life, and that was because I was away from home, and somehow needed a copy of a sheet of paper that, in turns out, would've been wider/taller than my scanner.
Had I had access to a scanner, I still would rather have a document that was scanned from 3-4 positions and then manually stitched back together.

My wife used to physically file all of the bills into different folders when they came in. It was mutually decided that I would take over bills and I wasn't going to file them, so I scan all the documents that come in. For the medical ones, I write the payment details on them before scanning. This makes it easy to retrieve any document I need.

Somewhere, I have a handheld Mustek scanner...two passes down the page, then the software puts the two halves together to recreate the page. Usually.

Oddly enough, I used my scanner yesterday as someone gave me a physical copy of a photo.
The all-in-one scanner/copier/"empty" cartridge holding device certainly took some excavating - definitely the first time it had been used in a year or so and it will shortly be heading back to semi-dead-kit-corner.

Hi, I'm not a programmer, I'm ok with computers though and have taken a couple security classes and other types of classes (originally I was a computer support major), but I was wondering if someone could explain something to me. Recently my computer got hacked by a guy I know and he was doing some things to change the appearance of webpages. For example on instagram, he made it look like some people posted pictures they they actually never posted.
I asked around on some other forums and one person who told me he had a job in computer security said what I explained wasn't possible because the URL was a legitimate URL. Nobody seemed that interested on the hacking and security forums I asked on. Anyway, I hope to get some help here. Also if there's anyway I could turn the pages back to their original form that would be nice to.
Now the guy who hacked me I thought said something about the DNS being changed? Is that what is going on or something more complicated or completely different?

Clear your DNS cache (LMGTFY) ?

As Duncan said, perhaps clear your DNS cache. Otherwise it might be some JavaScript injection going on, honestly though seems like a lot of effort to go through for that.
I'm assuming asking said guy/prankster what he did is out of the question?

Nah, he's not someone I should be talking after everything he did, and I wouldn't expect him to be honest about what he did either way. Pretty pointless. I tried all the stuff here. The sites show up the same on all of my devices at home as far as I can tell. I guess he is sending that stuff to people I know too. I went to my sister's house and connected to her neighbors open wifi and only half of the pictures on those IGs stuff showed up so I knew he sent it everywhere before then.

Look at the hosts file
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
something like that anyway. See if there is an entry for instragram and if so remove it.

A DNS is - really dull bit coming up - the web service that converts a URL domain like codeproject.com to it's IP address: 76.74.234.210 . Since the internet basically runs on IP addresses, you enter a domain into your address bar and your system uses it's internal cache to try and find the IP address related to that. If it can't find it locally, it uses a DNS online to get the current IP address for the site. This means that when you move a site from one web host to another the DNS gets updated and your visitors are redirected to the "new site location" without even knowing it has been moved.
So as suggested, clear your DNS cache: that will make things a little slower - briefly - because all your sites will have to be looked up at the DNS until your cache is refilled.
But before you do that, check your current DNS - it's probably Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) but you can look here: How to change DNS settings on a Windows 10 PC | Windows Central[^] and it'll show you how to find out.
TBH: it's unlikely to be a DNS change that did this, I'd look at Extensions in your browser first and see if there are any you didn't add, and run a virus / malware scan to check for nasties that way as well.

I concur. Also, check to see if your browser was set to use a proxy server where it wasn't before. That could the hacker to filter every legitimate URL access you do even without corrupting DNS or adding a browser extension.

Or he could have tweaked your network configuration to use his own (or any other non-legit) DNS server, with a patch to route Instagram through some other server. Check your network configuration: for the network connection(s) you use, go to Adapter Settings; right-click and choose Properties; scroll down to TCP/IP, select and click Properties; and check that the "Use following DNS server address" is not set (or not your ISP's own DNS server). (Assuming you're on Windows of some variety).

If you've performed regular backups, then I recommend re-imaging your operating system. That is about the only sure fire way to ensure all of the traps have been removed. You'll loose a day of work and several weeks of wondering if you got it all.

Not sure what is going on and I really didn't go into too much detail of everything about what this guy did to my computer for reasons but I've done that twice and it doesn't work for some reason. Some guy who claimed to have a job in security on another forum I was on was trying really hard to tell me I was crazy and nobody was in my computer but then he messaged me and told me "sorry, I really do believe you, I just didn't want to sound crazy for what I'm about you:" Then he told me sounded like a really bad guy and wanted to a dark web background check on to see if he was famous in the community
But honestly the stuff he did to my computer is sort of unbelievable and nothing like an average hacker could or would do. Anyway I can't go into detail about it anymore than I did because it's possible I'm seeing this stuff because some group of hackers are trying to shut me or something and they've already given me too many problems.
Also my screenshot key is all of a sudden broken too. I tried to take a screenshot of that conversation and just ended up printing it out instead. I don't really believe it's a "normal glitch" like that same guy said and that's just really suspicious imo. Anyway I've been taking screenshots of stuff that happened and posting them around different sites trying to get help so I thought maybe they, or he, whoever, are trying to get me to stop. But at least I know that guy I used to live with is involved.
